Yay! Spanish speakers! Man, I have gone so long without speaking it that when I do now I get tongue tied and my mom gets impatient with me. Mi esposo sabe unas pocas palabras en español, pero no le voy a enseñar mucho...una chica tambien debe tener sus secretos no?  ::)

Weeeeeeeeepppa!! I'm not the only Puerto Rican/New Yorican in the UK! WOOT!!

I'm in Nottinghamshire. When I first got here I had to go to London in order to even hear Spanish!  But since then, I've met two Mexicanas just down the road either side of me. Yay!

Being here has made me really hold on to my Puerto Rican heritage more than my NY/US heritage.  I've found my comfort in my cooking (something I didn't really do in the states) and have worked out in alot of cases how to adapt using local ingredients/cuts.

But yeah....Goya...you break my heart by not shipping internationally.

Donde estan mis Latinos!?

Hi - I am Cuban-Jew... Juban! From NYC. From a totally Puerto Rican hood! I'm from The Lower East Side of Manhattan. (2nd Street and Ave C.)
I miss Goya products... and I am waiting for a delivery of it from the States... Goya originated IN MY HOOD! How cool is that?!?!?!?

I've had OK Mexican food in Worthing, but it is NOT spicy enough for me. I found plantains... but they are sooooooooo green that they take a month to ripen. Here, cilantro is called coriander. I buy Skirt Steak to make Churrasco Cubano. My Picadillo has changed a bit in flavour, due to availability of items, but it is still good.

I have NOT found even ONE good latin restaurant yet... none in Brighton, but maybe London?

There is a place called Havana's, in Brighton, but it is not Cuban at all. I was soooooo bummed over that.

My Brit-hubby loves when my mom calls and I speak in Spanish - or when the cats are being bad and I yell in Spanish.

If you are a Latin, and near Brighton, GIVE ME A SHOUT!!!!!! I make GREAT coffee.

My plantains are refusing to ripen... They have been sitting on the window ledge for three weeks - still green.

UGH.

WHY??????

Have you tried the paper bag trick? I've seen them in the section where foil and cling film are.

Google'd for some more answers and saw something about putting the fruit, in the paper bag into a drawer/kitchen cupboard. Also putting other fruits(apples/cantalopes) with the plantains in the bag.

OK, got it... But, in NYC all I had to do was sit them on the window ledge for a few days... So, what's up here, with these?

CONFUSED...

Yeah, I don't understand, either, LaraM. I'm assuming it's because in the UK, it's more damp. DH and I put our fruit and veg in drawers(ok, apples and potatoes, really) and so do the cooks at work(apples, pears, potatoes, clementines, bananas). Hope it works out! :D
