I think this may be of interest to either those that live closer to where the place is opening and maybe those who haven't been in the UK that long?  :-\\\\

Or people just genuinely like it, like myself. I have loved TB since I was little. I dont think it has anything to do with how long a person has been here.

A good independent Mexican restaurant, sure! We have one in St. Ives, but I've never actually been there. One of these days ...

But for me, one of the biggest reasons I moved to the UK is that it isn't the US. It doesn't have Taco Bell, you can't buy Cheez Whiz and people don't keep telling you to have a nice effing day. If I wanted all of that, I'd have stayed put.  >:(

Like! (though I don't mind people telling me to have a nice day)

I think its different for someone who moved here for their other half though.  They may not have wanted to move here in the first place, so those little comforts are what they want.

However, for me,  I want that stuff to go away. I like places that have their own culture. Not the same old things in every single town.  Its depressing to me.

Ditto all of the above!  Hubby says 10-15 years ago there weren't even any US style shopping centres and giant ASDAs and most of the hideous KFCs, McDonald's, etc. didn't exist.  I really do hate it all and wish it wasn't here, too.

Is it just me, or does this seem like a weird place to put a Taco Bell? Not to say that there aren't any in malls in America, but I'd think their prime UK target would be drunk people wandering in after the pub and before the night bus home. So, essentially taking the same market as the kebab shop. I can't imagine many people wanting to eat Taco Bell sober.

We might not want it as Americans, but obvioulsy British people do want it or they wouldn't be making any money.

I think that remains to be seen. After all, they tried it once before and it didn't work.

But I still say that just because people are willing to pay for something, that doesn't make it good.  :-\\\\

I meant the Asdas/malls not so much the Taco Bell, although I do miss the DD.

You don't get shreddies in the US? They're readily available in Canada.

Aren't Chex the same as Shreddies?

If it was closer to where I lived I may drop in from time to time-I used to love the seven layer burritos.   :-[

Multi-grain chex are close- but shreddies have a really thick weave and are bigger. Rice chex/wheat chex are much lighter and get soggy very quickly.  Shreddies are yummy!

Chex are mostly air and the original pale ones were corn and / or rice based, weren't they?

Shreddies are wheat based and tightly woven and don't sog out as quickly, like PB says.

Hijack over.

Just a note...  There are Taco Bells in malls here in the US.  At least they can be found in malls in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC.

Cheers!  :)
