shrug.  Honestly, they could level all the McDonalds and BKs in the country if they wanted to, and I wouldn't care.  But I can't be apologetic about liking SOME American chains, and I wouldn't mind if they made it over here.  (eg, Quiznos, or Wendys.. I'm sure I could think of more if I put my mind to it.)  Not all of us live in London, and tbh, the food options where I live are pretty dire.  :)  I was used to cheap, reasonably high quality, non-chain takeaway places in Holland and Germany, but coming here we've noticed quite a difference in that market segment.

I will stress it's mostly down to where we live in the UK, and not the UK as a whole.  Please don't make me envious by telling me about all the lovely options you have in your towns.   ;D

The reasons we go to American food chains is mostly due to the fact that they are usually open all night, especially here in London. After a late night drinking, we're usually hungry and since there aren't any diners near by, we just stroll into a McDonalds.  :-*

There's also one in the big shopping centre in Southampton.

Here in Loughborough we have two McDonalds :( a BK :( and a KFC :( .  There's also a couple of Subways, which I admit I've been to once or twice.  But really, they're all the most mediocre of American chains...

It's just as well that we don't have Quiznos, to be honest!

;D LOL! It's true, but before you know it, there could be Long John Silver's here instead of proper chip shops!  :-X :P

I'd really rather have Taco Bueno or Taco Cabana than Taco Bell.  ;)

Heh heh, don't quite get the vitriol myself and agree totally, the thing about British culture is, it's been around a long time and it's constantly evolving, that's a GOOD thing, other cultures come to prominence more when people get fed up with one thing, like the trendiness of  British food and small producers which is huge at the moment, rare traditional pig breeds and illegal heirloom seed trading.
I've seen lots of American and continental chains come and go, when I was growing up the only chain Hastings had was a McDs, it was a bit of a novelty, Hastings is no worse now it has a KFC as well.
If you don't like it, vote with your feet and don't go, go out and support your local artisan  Taco restaurant if you must! :P

In my opinion Taco Bell will not kill anyone or anything, except possibly me when all that queso clogs my arteries!
There's room in my life for organic local veg boxes, farmers markets and a big greasy taco!

That will be two beef tacos, extra cheese, a 32-ounce iced tea, extra hot sauce. Thank you very much. :D

Is it just me, or does this seem like a weird place to put a Taco Bell? Not to say that there aren't any in malls in America, but I'd think their prime UK target would be drunk people wandering in after the pub and before the night bus home. So, essentially taking the same market as the kebab shop. I can't imagine many people wanting to eat Taco Bell sober.

Perhaps a cheap retail property came up?
I am excited about this, despite being about 98 miles round trip away from Lakeside :-(
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.
