Which forms do I need?
« on: May 26, 2010, 01:33:23 PM »
My wife and I moved to the UK from the US in Sept of last year, and I'm trying to work out which tax forms we need to submit, aside from good ol' 1040.

We sold our US house before we left, so I think that means we have to complete the 1099 form dealing with income from Real Estate transactions? Also, we own another property (in the US) which we rent out -- is that income declared on the 1040 or is there a separate one?

Just thought I would bump this and see if anyone would respond. I'm particularly unclear about the home sale thing -- we sold our house (value: under $200K) in August of last year. Where/how do I report this activity in my taxes?

Hope someone can help. Sorry to be a doofus -- I am genetically unable to cope with the US tax system. It makes my head hurt.

There are quite a few threads on this subject, so once you read the above, the other threads may make a bit more sense.
