Cheap beach chairs - where?
« on: May 27, 2010, 03:03:57 PM »
Where do you get cheap beach chairs that will fit in a suitcase? What are the beach chairs that are just canvas and a wood frame (no actual seat, just a flap of material, then the frame supports your back, you can choose the angle) called? Where can you get them?

Try B&Q for Chaise lounge or Picnic chair.

Thanks - I think those might be too big for a suitcase. I'm looking for a small foldable chair - remember the old aluminum beach chairs that were so close to the ground? Or those canvas frame things I don't know the name of? Something that is light and portable and can fit into a suitcase. I have no idea where to find anything like that.

I know exactly what you mean and have bought them in the UK before. Unfortunately, I have no idea what they're called so I can't help you Google them. Still, I can tell you that they do exist.

Something like a fishing stool or chair?

Something like this, maybe? Although the ones I've had have been a bit further off the ground. But this might do.

Chary - Oh, I know they exist, lol. Or at least, they did! We used to use them in California (and referred to them as the English beach chairs). Funny enough I have no idea where my grandmother got them there, either.

I just think they would be small & light enough to put in a suitcase and they'd do the job required. But what are they called and where do you get them??? lol.

Weby - saw those at the pound shop; the problem with them is that for lazing about on the beach they wouldn't be comfortable long. I'm looking for something with a back, and preferably something I can just go to the shop and get (as opposed to ordering online; I've seen some wedge things on Amazon that might do the trick but having no real sense of the size I am hesitant to go the online route).

This is when you really need a Walgreens or Target!!

Yeeaaaaah... looks more like a stadium chair than a proper beach chair - and again, not for day-long comfort (although I could be wrong?) Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Sorry to seem so picky; it's just I have an idea of what I am looking for, just no idea where to find them here.

I Googled 'portable folding beach chairs' and there seemed to be a lot of options. The one I linked to just looked more light-weight (i.e., easier to pack and carry) than the other sort.

This is more like the ones I've had.

Have you looked at Argos? Maybe they have something on the site similar to what you are looking for.  ???

Stella, I know exactly what you're describing - they've got wooden slats for a seat and a canvas back, and you pull the seat out and stick in in the bottom of the canvas frame and you sit really low to the ground. And then the seat comes out and stores flat, with a long strap for carrying. My parents bought some years ago, but I can't find them online anywhere either!!

I looked around while I was at Homebase today and all they had were the fold up ones with the metal and plastic (which were still fairly compact) and some directors chairs, which I don't think folded up.  :-\\\\

Hi there,

Beach chairs in the UK are generally known as 'deck' chairs, might be worth searching with that term ;)

Regards,
Stu

Deck chairs are generally full-size ones, though. I think the OP is looking for those small low-to-the-ground ones, which are slightly different. I saw them called 'sand chairs' somewhere, but I don't know if that's standard or just what that particular shop called them.
