Yes, what I am looking for is sort of like a half deck chair. Same type of canvas and wooden frame, only the seat of it, a canvas flap, sits directly on the sand. It is basically a back rest, and the wooden frame, like the deck chairs, gives you the option of what angle to recline at.

Failing that, something small and low to the ground that you could easily pack into a suitcase. I'd like to go to the shop to buy it rather than online. I have no idea what shops (apart from online ones) sell beach chairs here.

Thanks

Homebase had those metal and plastic short folding chairs, so they might work. They looked pretty compact. Have you looked at Halford's? They might have something like what you are looking for.

I think this is what you are talking about.  Have you searched under beach mats?  The site I linked to was for US sites though..
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Yes, exactly like that, only imagine it with a wood frame and the deck chair type canvas!!!! Now, what shop would I physically go into to find such?

Sporting goods maybe?  Or B&Q?
