HELP me with cot/crib bedding terms.

I'm 6 weeks away, in theory, from delivering this baby and I'm going MENTAL trying to find the SIMPLEST thing. I have what I would call a crib. It was purchased in the UK 6 years ago for my first son. It looks like a normal US crib..... is is called a crib? Or a cot? or a cot bed?

I only ask because I'm finding it IMPOSSIBLE to find bedding for the stupid thing. We've got another bed, which I *think* is a cot - - it is like a large bassinette. We're making the bedding for that by hand since it is an odd size.

But for the "crib", oh god I'm losing my mind over this. I want solid brown & solid green fitted sheets. That's all. This is what I want:

That is a US site, a site that doesn't ship to the UK. I'm happy to buy the stuff, ship it to my dad, and have him mail it to me..... but would the dimensions be the same? For a US "crib" and a UK "cribcotbedwhatever"?

I've spent weeks trying to sort this out on my own. Please help me, my hormone-riddled pregnancy brain is overwhelmed.

I do NOT want white sheets, or anything pastel. I want dark brown, and forest green. Alternatively, a pattern for the UK size so my mother in law can just make me some.

why not just measure the mattress and use that to compare sizes of sheets sets etc! If its looks like a normal US crib and the bed does not come apart to forma bed, its a regular Cot! From my experience, most bedding for cots etc are white pastel etc....you could try Mamas & Papas for something a bit fancier. Good luck!!

Cot UK = Crib US

I had the same problem when I started looking for baby stuff.  Luckily I got to check out all the different things at the Mothercare store before I started looking online so I got most of it straightened out.  Here's a general guideline (although just like in the US, there can be some variance):

Cot UK = Crib US

Cot Bed UK = Crib that converts into a toddler bed US

Crib UK = A cradle that hangs and usually swings or glides (here's an example)

Bassinet UK = Usually either a travel cot (aka playpen) or a circular bassinet (usually on a stand that cannot be removed) US

Moses Basket = Bassinet US (like the "regular" wicker ones)

I'm pretty sure I was able to use US crib sheets on my UK cot. They were a bit big, but if your MIL is handy with a needle and it bugs you not being perfectly fitted, she can probably adjust it. But check your sizes just to be sure (measure your mattress). Here's what I came up with:

I had to convert the inches to centimetres and got 71x132.

We were able to use some US crib bedding on our UK cot, with clips to hold the sheet on because it was a little big.

I was going to buy US sheets and just use clips to tighten them up a bit, but then MiL and I saw the right colored sheets, only they were flat sheets for a double bed, and she's made lovely sheets for George out of them. Problem solved by seamstress mother in law!
