Cheetos?
« on: June 01, 2010, 11:14:30 AM »
Anyone found or seen Crunchy Cheetos here ever?

My Tesco Extra had some ketchup-jalapeno flavoured ones in the Polish food section a few months ago. I wasn't brave enough to try them, but ever since seeing those, I have been craving your basic American ones (I'd even take Cheetos Puffs, if need be). But I have never seen imitation ones or other Cheetos here.

Any leads?

I've seen cheese puffs most everywhere, and Tesco has cheese balls, which are the same as those Planters ones in the states, I think, and there's always Wotsits, if that would help your craving. I've never seen proper Cheetos, but Nik Naks have the same texture as the regular Cheetos(though sadly, they don't make a cheese flavoured one) so I sometimes munch on those.

They don't taste quite the same as Cheetos, but they may be a decent substitute for you :). Personally, I prefer Wotsits to Cheetos (I could eat Wotsits all day long, lol), but that's because I grew up with them in the UK and didn't even try Cheetos until recently - I do prefer crunchy Cheetos to the puffs though.

I don't notice a great deal of difference between Wotsits and the Cheetos cheese puffs, except maybe a bit less orange stuff on my fingers after eating them.  ;) But the Tesco cheese balls are SUPER cheesy and loaded with orange cheese powder, so they will definitely do the trick if you want something crunchy and uber cheesy.  ;D Like I said, they are really just like the Planters ones that came in a tin (oh how I loved them as a child). But I think Nik Naks have really grown on me for having the same texture as regular Cheetos. I like the Nice n Spicy ones, they are a bit tangy, which is different, but I am used to that now. I don't mind not having orange fingers anymore.  :P

I am going to investigate these Tesco Cheese balls...there is a really big Tesco not far from my work, I'd imagine they'd have them there. I totally remember the Planters cans from childhood, too. Very tasty. It would be a decent fix, even if you can't find crunchy Cheetos here.

I think at our huge Tesco they were on either the very top or very bottom shelf, so you may have to search around by the crisps before you spot them. They also do some onion rings that are like Funyuns.  :P

I like Wotsits -- I was really amused to discover, after wondering what they were for so long, that they are almost the same as Cheetos Puffs.  I prefer crunchy Cheetos though, which are nowhere to be found.. :\\\'(

Sainsburys has a pretty good store brand version of cheese puffs, same shape and everything.  I discovered them while I was pregnant (had to abandon them soon after, I'm just not the sort who can have savoury snacks lying around the house without consuming them all!)  They tasted pretty much the way I remember cheese puffs tasting back home.

Crunchy Cheetos are, of course, the gold standard of fried corn goop + cheesy flavouring, but these are decent for a craving.

I found some Cheese Balls at ASDA just by chance the other day. They were pretty good...reminded me of the Planters ones you all mentioned. And they were like 88p a bag.

Funny about your craving them while pregnant, cakewench! I am pregnant and could've cared less about Cheetos up to this point. But now, I must have my Cheese Balls.

I heart Wotsits but wish they were bigger (like Cheetos that are like twice the size).  No particular reason why.  Anyway, I've never liked the crunchy Cheetos but it was fun trying to explain what they are to DH.
