I would like to introduce myself ...
« on: June 07, 2010, 08:02:09 PM »
Hi everyone!

My name is Emily and I am in the process of sending out my settlement visa to the NY office.  I currently live in Pennsylvania and am planning on joining my husband (English) in the fall (God willing the visa goes through).

I have lived in the southwest of England (Devon) for almost 5 months last summer/fall and then came bace to America.  I was joined by my fiance, now my husband, in December and he is still here but leaving in September to set up residence for us.  I loved living in England and missed it very much since leaving.  We had planned on doing the immigration thing on this side of the pond but they are in the process of changing laws in the 3rd circuit (PA, NJ and DE) and after much conversation, we decided England was better for us.

I just wanted to say hi prior to navigating this site and say that I hope to be joining you all on that side of the pond very soon.

Cheers,

Emily

Congratulations on your marriage and welcome to UK-Yankee.  My dearest UK friend loves Devon.  It's where she goes at least twice a year to recharge her batteries.
I think you'll love this forum - it's just great!

Welcome from another fellow South Westerner!
Where abouts in Devon will you be? My inlaws live in South Devon so we are there atleast once a month. By far my favorite place in the UK (with Cornwall). I just love the West Country!

Thank you all for the lovely welcome!

I lived in Newton Abbot while staying in Devon to answer Mapleleafgirl.  I love Exeter myself!  We are thinking of relocating either to Exeter or the Bath area as it is near Bristol and perhaps a better change of jobs.  AT least I hope so.
I agree, Zoro, that the southwest is gorgeous!  I have never seen views like I had whilst there especially in Dartmoor.  Bath was very pretty though.  But Dartmoor with the moors and wild ponies ... just love it.  Definitely a place to go to recharge and just appreciate.

I hope the visa processing time is quick.  The website tells you 120 days but my friend who is relocating there next month or so, had her visa in less than 2 months.  I am not sure why so quickly, but here's to hoping it's the same on my end!  lol  We have really been through the immigration up's and down's this side of the pond, and we just want a direct path and a definitive "yes, you can be together!"

Fingers crossed and thank you again for the warm welcome!  I truly look forward to getting to know you all!

xx

Welcome, emily28!

I wish you all the best of luck with a speedy process getting your visa.  I can completely sympathize with the immigration process on this side...been there, done that.   :)
