World Cup: Divided Loyalties
« on: June 09, 2010, 02:01:34 PM »
My wife and I are Americans who have lived in the UK for 4 years.  Our 6 year old son will be cheering for England while my wife and I will stick behind the USA but cheer for England above others.  Not finding any such images on the net, I cobbled together a couple images of both USA and England flags.  Display your divided loyalties!

Go USA!  Come on England (except in the first match)!

This is brilliant! Thanks for posting these. I have very mixed feelings on this game. I will be cheering for the USA..but won't be to upset if England wins. What a great way to  display your divided loyalties!! :)

There are too many England players that I dislike, I can't make myself cheer for them.  I think I'll just read a good book on Saturday night instead.   :-\\\\

This is a non-issue.  There are no divided loyalties.  Cheering only for an American repeat of 1950 (sans Joe Gaetjens, of course).  The 4 year old will be cheering for USA as well as english dw doesn't care about footie!

Haha, lots of my friends have been asking me who I'm supporting in the World Cup.  I will be rooting for America, but if we are eliminated and England remains, I'll support England.

I am rooting for the Ghana team.  But I also want the American team to do really well because I think they have a lot of potential and stand to surprise some of the more established teams out there.  But, of course, if Ghana gets to play team USA, I want Ghana beat them  :D

Since we don't follow lots of football we are now in a fantasy/drawing and our team drew Chile to win! So lets go Chile ;-)

I really don't care. But, the rivalry sounds like fun, and besides, why shouldn't the lone American in the village go to our local pub to support the USA?  ;D Soooo... I'm hitting the pub Saturday night (brave soul that I am) and I guess I will (quietly) support the USA... lol.

Well.....  the village hall is opening for the match so I guess I'll give it a go.  And I'll paint USA on my face.   :D   It'll be a friendly bunch so I don't think they'll mind.

I got Brazil on the Sure Mens Deoderant challenge thingy...and I'll actually win a bit of money if they win...so I'll be cheering for Brazil (my hubby got Denmark...BWAHAHAHA!!).   ;D

But...gotta support the Homeland...so I'm Team USA loyal but will also be cheering for England to come in 2nd place.

DW said that she'll probably root for England as she knows who the players are, she doesn't really know the US players (even though many of them play over here)
We are having some friends over including another US/English couple. We were going to have a BBQ but decided to order in pizza instead.

I will join you on the England band wagon JessicaKate.  Mostly because if America lose, it won't do damage to the American psyche for the next 50 years like it would to England.  It will be a nation in mourning if England lose the first game in a World Cup (especially to a country that plays soccer, not footie!) where they have an actual chance of winning!

So..."GO LIONS!"   ;D

I'm in the States and my sister and I are having a few folks over to grill and watch the game.  Of course, I'll root for the US, but I feel like a bit of a liar being as I can't name a single player on the US team and I can offhand name at least half of the England team.
