I will join you on the England band wagon JessicaKate.  Mostly because if America lose, it won't do damage to the American psyche for the next 50 years like it would to England.  It will be a nation in mourning if England lose the first game in a World Cup (especially to a country that plays soccer, not footie!) where they have an actual chance of winning!

So..."GO LIONS!"   ;D

Gosh... you have a good point there. But, DH told me if I didn't support the USA, everyone at the pub would think I was some kind of traitor - like who doesn't support their own country's team? Or whatever. Truthfully, it will be a much more fun experience at the pub if England wins, and if the USA wins, I will probably slip out a back door somewhere and hide in my house. LOL.

Thank god my husband isn't into footie! His friends keep asking if it's going to be a problem on Sunday. I'm not bothered, and he isn't really - so no problem.. (And actually I'd like England to win, because it's much more important for them..)

Now, if we were talking NFL.... that'd be a different story. ;)

I think that's actually how DW is viewing it, that it means far more to me so she knows I'll be happy if England win whereas she's not really that bothered.

Now the Stanley Cup was a different matter as she's from Philly area and I like the Blackhawks!
Same if it's Philles v Cubs!

I've never supported US sports really; it's my Brasilian blood that has always come through for international sport, especially football, so I will as always be supporting the country of my birth. Unfortunately Scotland didn't make it :( so I don't have a second team, though I got Denmark and Netherlands in my office pool so I'll vaguely support them. As an adopted Scot I can't abide the England team (in any sport :P), so I'll generally be supporting whoever plays against them... unless it's Argentina of course!

I understand your DH's point, about cheering for your country, Jewlz, but c'mon!  I mean, it is not like it is the Cowboys playing for the Superbowl or anything really important like that!    ;D

We don't follow sports at all but will be watching the game on Saturday.  MrRed5 will be supporting England...the girls and I the USA. Knowing the 6 year old though, she will support whoever wins.

Since we don't follow lots of football we are now in a fantasy/drawing and our team drew Chile to win! So lets go Chile ;-)
That is who MrRed5 has in his work pool as well-go Chile!!

At my husband's office, they brought in foosball (table football) & everyone had to draw one of the World Cup teams.  My husband's is Slovenia.

He made his shoulder ache playing table football at work this week.  ::)

Today, they each played their team's national anthems for each other.  They thought his Slovenian anthem was the best - as it appears to be a drinking song...like 'We like to drink wine all of the time' or some such.  ;)

Tomorrow, for the opening ceremony, they are going to play the South African national anthem on a kazoo.

They will then be playing in their own (table) football/foosball tournament over a few days, mirroring the World Cup team matches.

Yes, that is why he makes the 'big' money.  :P

I'm in the same boat.  Anyone But England!  :D  But, I'd love to see the US make it to the finals, at least.  I'm just tired of hearing about how they 'just can't compete' blah, blah, blah....

True, true.  ;D I'm glad we live here instead of there because otherwise I would be stuck watching American football all the time. He was glued to the set on Thanksgiving Day at my mom's. It was almost as bad as Formula One.  ::)  :P

Hehee!!!! That's about the cutest thing I've heard this week! Here's hoping Slovenia is the Foosball World Cup Champion of 2010!!!  ;D

I'll let him know that Slovenia has got your support!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] ;D

I am wondering if we are going to be watching the match at BIL/SIL's tomorrow?  5 English and 1 American.  :P

Well, I will be in a pub full of drunken Northumbrians, so if I can manage not to get lynched, then so can you! Fortunately, my SIL doesn't care about football and she is a hard woman, so I'm sure she might protect me.  :P

I feel I am expected to suport the USA but when you don't follow it either way its just a band wagon.  I mine as well make it fun! As I head out Saturday night to local put sans DH I am wearing my brown cowboy boots, jeans, american t-shirt and for sh$ts and giggles might bring my stetson.  They want ya to support your home country, mine as well do it right!  ;D

My son says he will be cheering for the US on Saturday because "If they win I could go to school on Monday and rub it in to everybody.  They would beat me up.  But it would be worth it."  My husband will be rooting for England.  My daughter and I don't really care much one way or the other.

England lose to the USA but scrape through the group stage, they show improvement and get to the semi finals where they then lose on penalties.... ::)
