USA! DRAW!
« on: June 12, 2010, 09:32:09 PM »
I am quite happy with the 1-1 draw with England, i thought we played pretty well! Not the chump team we once use to be, finally a good team! Good job boys! Best of luck in games to come!!

I am very, very pleased with the result.  Yeah, Robert Green should have saved that goal, but that shouldn't take away from the fact that we played competitively.

As an Everton supporter, and as an American, I was very proud of Tim Howard.  He's just great.

A lot of my friends are saying "oh, that US goal wasn't real." I keep wanting to call them 'sore losers,' but no one technically won! I guess the US goalie was really good while the England goalie fumbled. What an unenviable position that goalie is in :(

What a nail biter! I worried the entire game- especially after Howard was injured! He looked really hurt- what a trooper.

Although I was rooting for England, it was a great match and I have to give kudos the US team for playing so well.

A draw?  A freakin' DRAW!!??  See, this is the frustrating part of soccer.  There should have been overtime, so that the US could have properly beat them. :p

Still, not too shabby.

hehe, its all good, its a tournament! We may end up playing them for a second time, who knows! I am just glad we got some points out of it! I thought we played great! England thought they would walk all over us and get 3 pts...i think not!!!

Tim howard is the man, "budweiser man of the game" and he deserves it! I to was scared when he got hurt...def was tense the whole game and last few minutes!

All of England looked like they lost today, guess they shouldnt have set their expectations so high!! lol. Good game for sure!

Only if they both reach the final! I'd take that!

It was a good result for me. I didn't want England to lose because my hubster and all his mates would've been gutted (they were upset enough over the draw!) but of course, I didn't want the USA to lose either and I wanted them to put up a good fight, which they did. I had a great time!

Was a good game, I supported England naturally and my other half the US, couldn't have asked for a better score to keep the peace lol

Howard was an extraordinary player and so deserved man of the match  :)

They were showing on Sky News this morning a copy of the New York Post with the headline "America Wins 1 - 1." LOL. Too funny.  ;D

I saw my boss this morning, I think she was waiting to have a pop at me.   >:(
"There was just no comparison, England was by far the better team, USA didn't deserve that goal or a draw" etc.
I simply said "England had 87 minutes to score again and they didn't."  But it kind of ruined my morning. :(

I really feel bad for the English goalie. The papers have been merciless on him, but I do love how papers here are also saying "America plays a stunning game--etc etc" XD

Again, June, it goes back to what I was saying earlier when a guy at my uni said that the US goal "wasn't real." Ummm how was it not real? The player kicked the ball, the ball was not veered away by the opposing team, the ball was not caught by the goalie, the ball went into the goal...

I just make jokes about how the ball was slow on purpose so that even an American who has no idea what was going on would have time to cheer.  :P That usually just makes them laugh. I don't know much about football, but even I could see that one going in.  ;D I guess I feel I should appease them a little bit and make light of the situation if I can. Their poor feelings are so hurt!  ::)  :P But I do also smile and say, as far as I know, if it goes in the net, it counts. And they can't argue with that!
