That would be what we call karma after the non-goal of 1966! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1966_FIFA_World_Cup_Final#Controversial_third_England_goal_in_extra_time

Not really.....they've still never been able to conclusively prove that one.
Oh...and 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Yeah 6cm is pretty close...2 feet (or more) is a little different.

I'm with the commentators. I don't understand why they don't use the technology available in order to decide goals. As they said today, it's an embarrassment to the sport that good goals (by any team) are disallowed when it would only take a minute or less to verify them and wouldn't really slow the game down much at all, making it more fair for everyone.

Not that it mattered. England were terrible and Germany could have scored several more. A well-deserved win for the Germans. Poor Mexico were royally screwed over by that first Tevez goal, he was ridiculously offside, and the linesman saw it on the replay and still refused to reverse his decision. Typical official-buying Argie cheating. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Of course it mattered...2 goals in a minute to pull the game level, I'd have put money on England grabbing a third before half time. England would have been on such a high and the Germans would have been rocking....who knows how the game pans out.
The linesman CANNOT reverse his decision based on a replay, the replay should not have been shown in the stadium. I'm not saying that they shouldn't introduce video replays for instances like in today's games

There is nothing in how England have played all tournament that suggested they were capable of that.

Well, no one will ever know for sure thanks to another bad decision. The refs have been horrible in these games so far. Mexico might have won had they not fallen behind to a bad decision, too.

Obviously we'll never know what might have happened if the goal had been called correctly, so rather than argue about what England might or might not have been capable of in a hypothetical future in which the correct call was made, I'll just say that in the interest of getting the call right I'm in favor of technology being used on close goal calls.  It should be at the discretion of the referee or a video replay judge like in ice hockey.

I'd hate to see a call blown like in today's matches with a game on the line and little time left, or for some guy playing in his country's first World Cup to have an obvious goal missed.

I wonder if today's ref and the ref in USA's Slovenia match went to the same officiating school.   ???
