My children went to a C of E primary school. It's the neighborhood school. It's not oversubscribed. Children of different faiths, and children with no faith background, attend the school. We have a Catholic primary school in our town which is much more likely to have Christian pupils but even so children of other faiths attend and they are largely from the surrounding neighborhood. The only Catholic secondary school is in a different town, has a good reputation, and is oversubscribed, so there are some people who send their children to the Catholic primary school specifically so they'll have a better chance of getting into the secondary school. That doesn't seem too surprising to me.
