OK whats next?
« on: July 13, 2010, 09:10:33 PM »
As some of you may know my DW (yes I get to say that now) and I got married last Thursday in the US. Now we are coming back to earth with a bump. She is happy and sad at the same time. Happy that after 6 years of knowing each other we are finally married but very sad that we only had 3 days of marriage before I had to fly home to sunny olde England.

Now are have to start looking at the visa... Now I am looking at the Settlement visa (VAF4A)
http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/resources/en/docs/1903073/vaf4a

Is this correct?

Also reading on this forum that others are having to wait for family members to finish with their schooling we are in the same boat and have the next year to wait for her son to finish high school and get him packed off to college. I know that we will need to keep all records on calls, emails, skype logs etc but is there anything else we need to do.

Has anyone had to do it this way before? what are the pitfalls and what do we need to be aware of? I know we should have done the marriage visa first but this was very last minute and we hope we have not made a big pile trouble for ourselves.

Thank you in advance...

Andrew and Liz

My DH and I were also married-but-apart from March until October the 1st year we were married. I used the time to get all organized and apply for the visa, it didn't impact it at all (except in saving me some money because I could wait and didn't need to expedite the visa). Start gathering the documents, and then I believe you can have them post-date the visa up to three months (so you could apply in June and have the visa dated Sept?), so she can get up and go as soon as possible!
Good luck, others with better advice will be along soon!

Yes, you would be looking into a settlement visa; however, the form that you have linked to is not the real visa application.

When the time comes for you to apply, you would apply online.   The visa application you have linked to is for informational purposes only, and you can use it to get an idea of what information you'll need for the online form.  From what I've heard, the informational visa application and the real online application are not exactly the same, so while it is a good guide to know what to expect, it's not exactly what you'll see when you do the online application.
