Waitrose carries a brand called Paula's pumpkin puree and I believe it is Canadian. It's next to the canned fruit. It does the job! My Waitrose (quite small and outside London) seems to carry it year round.

Ha! You're dreaming!!!!

We do have the big Tesco, the regular Tesco, the small Tesco, and planning permission just died for another Tesco....

I wish that stupid ASDA that's supposed to come in would go away and instead we can have Sainsburys... if they must build another supermarket...   :-\\\\

I've never heard of it. When our Waitrose arrives, I'll have to check it out. Maybe it's an out East thing? Or it arrived in the last 10+ years since I left Canada? Intrigued.

Can this be the Pumpkin Watch 2010 thread?  ;D

I checked the Waitrose on Byres Road last week and saw nothing yet.  I've got pumpkin oatmeal cookies that need making!  May head there again tomorrow and talk to someone about it.  ;) I know my flatmate got some there last year, so maybe a manager or someone will know when it's coming in.

Are you looking for tinned or regular pumpkins?
Because regular pumpkins are definitely about now, I saw some at the living food festival the other day

You could always make some pumpkin puree from a fresh pumpkin if you get desperate. It isn't hard to do and it works really well. I use it for all sorts of things like pumpkin muffins and cupcakes, etc. I am planning to make some this week for the freezer for goodies for fall.  :)

Pumpkin oatmeal cookies? That sounds wonderful - got a recipe to share?

It came from my friend's mom.  I haven't tried them out yet but I'm getting antsy!  ;) I still need to sort through all the baking threads here first though so that I make sure to get them to turn out properly.  If anyone has any insight into what I should do with flour/baking soda/baking powder I would love the advice!

Halloween Cookies
4 c. flour  (7 1/2 c. )
2 c. oats (3 1/2 c. )
2 t. cinnamon (3 1/2 t. )
2 t. baking soda (3 1/2 t.)
1 t. salt (2 t.)
1 1/2 c margarine (3 scant c.)
1 c. sugar (2 scant c.)
2 c. brown sugar (3 1/2 c.)
1 egg (2)
1 t. vanilla (2 scant t.)
16 oz. pumpkin (29 oz.)
1 c. chocolate chips (2 c.)

Preheat oven 350 degrees.  Cream butter and sugars together.  Add
vanilla and egg.  Sift together dry ingredients, add oats.  Alternate
adding dry ingredients to butter mix with pumpkin.  Stir in chocolate
chips.  Drop on to greased cookie sheet (or use parchment paper)  Bake
for 20 to 25 minutes.  Decorate like Jack-o-Lanterns.

PB & Jewlz: How do I go about using fresh pumpkin?  I've been waiting for tinned mostly because I'm scared of fresh!  :P  I've used it for soup, but never in baking.

Yes, please help! I've never used real pumpkin for anything other than jack-o-lanterns and roasted seeds. I've never cooked with anything like pumpkin or squash.

I am not sure if this is helpful, but I get mine from Selfridges in Birmiingham. It is much more expensive than at home, but worth it come this time of the year. I like the tinned much better than the fresh (I know, I am strange!!)  They also sell Karo syrup for pecan pies...
