I'll share one of my favourite goofs that I did myself  ::)

I was on night shift(im a nurse) and one of the other nurses that was on duty was male. I said to him, without even thinking or batting a eye ... "Hey you may need to poke me every so often during the night to keep me awake"   [smiley=oops.gif] [smiley=laugh3.gif] As soon as it was outta my mouth I knew i had made a mistake rofl.. poor guy turned bright red. Has been a ongoing joke between me and my guy ever since rofl.. My guy thought it was HILARIOUS when I told him about it the following day ..
So there you go.. thats another misunderstanding..
Another one that was explained to me prior to living here.. was the fanny pack... bum bag differance rofl.. soooo glad i was told about that one before hand   [smiley=laugh4.gif]

On my now finance's very first trip seeing me in the US, we were sat talking about pasta sauce, or food, or something of the sort.   I said that I put "Oregano" in it (In the usual US "or-ehgano" kind of accent)

She looked at me oddly for a second, and then understood. "Oh, you mean OREGANO!" (Ore-Aye-Gah-No)

This of course has started a long course of us correcting each other on pronunciations that goes on till this day.  Unfortunately, it means I've started using English slang and terminology here a bit more since talking to her (which gets me looks), and her friends insist that she sounds "American" immediately after talking to me for a bit (Which also gets her looks).

So...I don't know what we are. lol.

Worldly  ;)

Seriously, if/when my BF and I get married, we're playing "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" at the reception.

I love to drive my boss crazy with ''Aluminum'' and ''schedule'' with a hard ''c'', good times.

Playing trivia on the pub machine , question was 'things you can put on a biscuit'. I chose "Jif" (my favorite creamy peanut butter in the states) and he looked at me like I was insane. Best not to put cleaning supply on a biscuit i guess  ;)

That's at the point when I realized my trivia skills will be severely crippled once moving there!

Ask him where he went to school. Was it in a shool or a skool?

I don't think that was a UK/US misunderstanding. I think you'd have gotten the same reaction in either country.
