Having just come back from holiday in Italy, I'd like to recommend this place: www.piazzanova.com/. It was amazing value, the owners were lovely (picked us up and took us to the station), and the breakfast were huge. We didn't bother to self-cater, but it has everything you need if you want to - and Ferrara is lovely.

I'm not on commission honestly, just feel they deserve a recommendation.
