I got an email today saying that my application has been assigned to an  Immigration officer!  Then about an hour later I got a phone call with some basic confirmation questions - Our names, birth dates- intentions- living situation, then she said she saw my email about not knowing what I needed to declare ( my traffic violations and past arrests that didn't lead to any conviction)  She let me sort it all out and asked for the court docs that confirm charges were dropped)  she did say if they were dropped it wasn't a problem and I should be issued the visa soon,  but needed the documents for my file. SO... I ran around and faxed them ASAP.

blackcat: this little post totally gave me the boost i needed for a Friday. it was the good news that me and FH clung to yesterday :)

i'm a few weeks behind you but hopefully hear something soon. Applied 3-10, biometrics 3-14, email from NYC 3-15.

And to be the broken record, remember to not book any flights until you have had a chance to make sure all the details on your visa are correct!

We got married on Saturday March 26th and submitted our application online the same day. We sent our application to the Los Angeles Consulate, which is still processing applications from California residents, and used the Settlement Priority Service.

We got the biometrics done and sent the document packet off on Tuesday afternoon, the documents were received by the consulate on Wednesday, and the visa was approved on Thursday! Passport and documents were back in our hands on Saturday, exactly seven days after submitting the application.

Congrats Blackcat and LeFeverLover! You must be on cloud 9  :)

I got my processing e-mail today with action required... here is what it states.

Your UK Settlement Visa is currently being processed.  Please send in court documents pertaining to your DUI in 2003.  I note that you have provided an online printout from US Search.  However, this does not show the record.  Please provide a court document which details the nature of the conviction, the sentence and that all conditions have been accepted by the court.

Please send the original document hard copy to the address below within 2 weeks as of the date of this notification.

Best Regards

British Consulate General

I have a question for everyone on here who have recieved their settlement visas.

Quick synapse of our story.. my husband is from UK, I from US.  We married in US 2.26.10.  Due to a child in college, we decided for him to reside here, till she graduated.  After a half year, and 3k of immigration BS, they said they didnt get something we sent.  Because we were looking to go there anyway this spring, we decided for him to go back, due to the appeal taking longer than then.

We are now ready to start the settlement visa process to get me home with him.  We have already been separated since October, and do not want to make any mistakes that could cause us further separation.

I have heard all kinds of mixed messages as to supporting documents.  I had heard that a copy of his passport and a copy of his long form birth certificate were fine, then heard on of them had to be the actual original.  I had heard in addition to him making enough to support me, we also had to show a savings.  Then I heard no, as long as he makes enough.

So could those of you who have had their visas from the US approved please list what supporting documents you included?  This would be a big help for me as well as others im sure.  Thank you so much for your help.  Tammy

I haven't applied for a visa myself, but I have been around the forums for a few years, so I am familiar with what documents need to be included, so I can help with a coupe of things:

I have heard all kinds of mixed messages as to supporting documents.  I had heard that a copy of his passport and a copy of his long form birth certificate were fine, then heard on of them had to be the actual original.

Yes, if you are only sending a photocopy of the passport photo page, then the birth certificate must be original - because the birth certificate is being used to prove that the passport photocopy is authentic (and the certificate was just a photocopy, you wouldn't be proving the authenticity of anything because both could potentially be fake).

You have 3 options for his passport:
1) Send his original passport (not advisable in case he needs it while your visa is being processed)
2) Send a certified/notified copy of his passport photo page
3) Send a regular photocopy plus his original long-form (A4 size) birth certificate

Quote
I had heard in addition to him making enough to support me, we also had to show a savings.  Then I heard no, as long as he makes enough.
All you need to show is that between you, you have at least £105.95 left over each week after paying rent and council tax (plus £62.33 per week, per child if any children will be living with you) - i.e. you need to show you have at least as much money as a couple/family on income support benefit would receive from the government to live off. So, if it's just the 2 of you, then you will need to show you have at least £459.12 left per month after paying rent/mortgage and council tax.

If he can meet this requirement on his income alone, then that is all you need to have for the financial part of the application. However, if you also have any savings (either you or him), you can include evidence of them in addition to his income (i.e. the more money you can show you have, the better, but you'll be fine as long as you meet the minimum requirement).

The documents you must send for finances are:
- at least the last 3 months of his pay slips,
- at least the last 3 months of his bank statements,
- any savings account statements you might have if you want to include savings in the application as well

You can read the entry clearance guidance for maintenance and accommodation (what the consular staff use to determine if you meet the requirements) here: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/ecg/maintenanceaccommodation

I'm in the UK and my fiance is in the US.
I really wish I had found these forums much earlier in this nightmare process as the more I read the more I worry. I haven't sent any of my original documents from the UK (didn't sound so safe sending all that information across the pond) but instead sent copies of everything and its aunty. But oh well... shall just have to wait and see now.  :-\\\\

So we have also joined the queue, non priority and recieved our confirmation of receipt email yesterday (5th April 11).

Congrats to all those that have recieved their Visa's by the way, reading through this thread made me cry first time with all the happy news! Good luck to everyone else still waiting.
