All the same, you'll be better off getting ILR and citizenship so you always have your options open.

Well i received a call yesterday from British Consulate i did not send my husband's passport as i was not sure to send that so she just gave me a reference number to put on package with it and to send it so they can finish for my settlement visa. I hope it comes soon now.

I am new to the site and I don't really know what I am doing.  They received my Wifes package on Fri 30th Sep.  Does anyone know when we should expect to get the 2nd email stating when it has gone to an advisor? Thanks

Not everyone gets an email.  Some don't hear from the Consulate until a decision has been reached.

I got one email stating it was opened and organized, then i got a call last week on my husband's passport so i sent that then today i got email at 919am there time stating my uk visa was approved and should be there next day thru ups. Hope that helps you as i know its very frustrating. Good luck to you and your wife

They generally send an email for receipt & another for approval, but this is not a guarantee. They sent me an email confirming that they got my package. I never got the email stating that my visa was approved with the tracking number. My passport & visa just showed up 3 days later. I think somebody here never even got an email. Her passport and visa just arrived 7 days after her application arrived @ the consulate (based on the tracking confirmation). I understand that it's really frustrating but hang in there & good luck.
Sept 2, online application
Sept 9, biometrics appointment, purchased priority & sent package to UK Consulate NYC
Sept 12, package delivered 9 am, email of receipt @2:56pm NY Time
Sept 15, passport arrived in the post with visa.

Congrats!  Should I be worried that most people have been getting returns back in a couple of days and we are nearly on working day 6 and haven't heard anything.  I assume that if it is going to be a complicated case or need extra consideration they email you like with other peoples cases.  I haven't had a phone call or anything asking for any further information and I am in the Army so I was assuming it would be a pretty simple case. Thanks for all your help!

What exactly is the average waiting time if this is the case?
Ive been waiting 6 business days since my last email which stated that my package had been opened and organized and that I would get another email when an officer received it. Im nervous, but at the same time, because Ive seen so many positive outcomes from situations similar to mine, I feel like mine is probably just another email-less case and I'll get my visa without even knowing it was approved. *fingers crossed*
Also, will the visa come from UPS/Fedex/etc. or just in regular mail?

I know it is frustrating, but hang in there. The emails from the Consulate are not a guarantee. Most people do get an email of receipt, then an email containing information about the outcome and the tracking number. Some people also receive an email stating that their application has been assigned to an ECO (before the outcome email). Once again, none of these are guarantee. In my case, an email of receipt and my passport with the visa was returned to me a couple days later. Somebody else on this board didn't even get an email of receipt, her package just arrived at her place 1 week after.
They generally return the documents & passport via UPS next day air. You will definitely get a tracking number, it won't be through the normal mail.

The question becomes: did you pay for the Settlement Priority Service? If you didn't you could be waiting a very long time. If you did, then you should hear something within 15 business days.

The passports & supporting documents are returned via UPS 2nd day air.
