Technically you are allowed to start work before you have a National Insurance number, however you will not be taxed at the correct rate until you have one and also some companies may not hire you until you have one (i.e. you might have to provide an NI number on job application forms etc.).

We officially begin the wait today.  I overnighted the supporting docs after my biometrics appointment yesterday.  The consulate should get them today.  [smiley=anxious.gif]

It took us 4 days after posting it to get the "you've got it" mail.  Monday posted, Friday "you've got it".

The very best of luck Jess!!!

Congratulations! I can only hope mine goes as quickly!

Biometrics done 17 Oct, Paid priority and shipped overnight 20 Oct (should have arrived before 10:30 am next day), and rec'd confirmation email 21 Oct (at around 1 pm).

And today I just got a sort of job offer! How frustrating... and wonderful   ::)

Just waiting for now...

Spouse settlement visa. NY office.

Online application: 16th October
Biometrics appointment: 18th October
Package sent with US Post Office: 19th October
Email from embassy, package received: 20th October
Email from embassy, visa issued: 21st October

We were one day wonders too! We couldn't believe it! I thought I was going to faint. And I just want to say that I (as the sponsor) only make around £13,300 a year and we had NO savings to speak off. Whoever issued our visa deserves some cake for sure! Absolute legends.
Thanks also to everyone on this site for sharing experiences and knowledge.

If anyone would like any specific details of what we did my email is chloehinchy@yahoo.com

Now I have to wait 8 weeks for hubs to arrive :D
