Oh no, that sucks!  Just came on here to say that average processing time for applications is now 2 days, according to the UKBA website:

2 days, that is wonderful! According to UPS, my documents arrived today. Now the lovely anxiety of waiting for approval. I hope I find out by the weekend!

My timeline:

online application: Nov 17
Biometrics: Nov 21
App + Docs fedexed to NY Consulate: Nov 21
Email acknowledgement from NY Consulate: Nov 22
Visa Approved email from NY Consulate: Dec 2 (today).

I did not use priority service.

Hope this helps...good luck!

So here is my time line as far as my app for UK settlement goes:

11/14 Paid for visa app.
11/17 Did biometrics
11/17 Mailed app via fed ex next day service to NYC office
11/21 Received email that my package arrived.
11/21 Received 2nd email that my app required further processing up to 15 business days.

I have not yet heard anything back. I am so anxious and worried.
what can cause denial? Does denial mean I cannot ever travel to the UK?
All I want to do is live with and get married to my fiancee.
My plane ticket was for 11/30.

Help please!

I wouldn't start worrying yet... today is only day 9 of the 15-day timeline they gave you (the processing time doesn't include weekends or the Thanksgiving holiday) and other people who have received the 15-day email have had their visas processed by either day 15 or day 16.

what can cause denial?

It depends. A visa refusal could be for something as basic as not including the correct documents (which can be easily fixed by re-applying with the required documents); or if you don't actually meet the maintenance or accommodation requirements; or if you have something like a serious criminal conviction for which the sentence had it occurred in the UK is imprisonment of 12 months or more.

No, but you would need to get a visitor visa (or other type of visa) in order to travel to the UK again in the future.

They do actually recommend on the UKBA website that you do not book any travel or plane tickets until after you have received the visa. Just in case it takes longer than you were expecting or in case the visa is refused and you are not able to travel at all.

Visa was approved today!!!  ;D

11/28 Biometrics done
11/28 Sent application documents UPS (2 day shipping)
12/1 Email from NY consulate saying application received
12/6 Email saying visa approved

I did not pay for priority.

I am so happy that the visa stress is over!
