Good luck gilean!  I am counting on that last two hours in LA, too!  Doesn't help that I finally got an email confirming our tennancy agreement, but I am too far along to send it in now.  Hopefully it's all good anyway...

I'll offer up advice on the biometrics: they don't get done in NY. When you finish your online application and submit it, at the end, it asks you to schedule the appointment. You pick your state, it shows you centers in your state that do the biometrics, and then you schedule a time from what they have available. And your biometrics has to be completed no more than 2 weeks after the application is submitted online. Very best of luck to you, and congratulations on the upcoming wedding bubsy!

hmmm, now i'm confused - what exactly do you mean biometrics don't get done in NY? my state is NY...so where am i to have them done?

I think they meant that you don't actually go to the NY consulate for the biometrics, which is what some applicants believe they need to do.

As you live in NY, you'll probably have your biometrics done at one of the USCIS centres in NY state, but it is up to you... there are 129 centres across the US where you can get your biometrics done, so I believe you can chose the centre that is most convenient for you. Looking at the office locator (https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=ASC), there are 11 biometrics centres located in NY state.

Remember that once you attend your biometrics, you have 14 calender days to get all your documents to the Consulate, so make sure you have them all ready to go.  I'm not sure about NYC (and you may want to check), but it may take some time before you can get your marriage certificate - it took me 2 weeks to get a copy of mine.  So, if there will be a delay in getting your marriage certificate, you may need to hold off on applying

Thank you for your response...that was quick!

i do know and understand the complete process in how to apply along with the rules and regulations...only because of this forum:) we're getting married at City Hall, where you get your certificate immediately following the ceremony...so there will be no need to wait to apply - unless of course, i'm not able to schedule my biometrics sooner than later! my inquiry is to find out how long people in NY are having to wait for an opening to have their biometrics and is there a better centre to use (i.e. Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, etc.)...any answers, anyone?

I would just check that certificate you get after the ceremony is definitely the official one and not a copy (as a copy is not sufficient for the visa application). I've seen here on the forum that some places issue a copy right after the ceremony, but you still have to wait a few days to receive the official document in the mail.

Most of the visa applicants here on UK-Y are from elsewhere in the US, so they probably won't have any experience with the NY offices. I don't think you can know for sure what the wait times are like until you have submitted your online visa application and are taken to the biometrics appointment booking page. You will have a choice of different local centres though, so if one is booked up, you can try to find another with shorter wait times. I think most people manage to book an appointment within a few days of submitting their visa application online, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to get them done quickly.

Hi Gilean, thank you for the info!!!!  At day 50, I can contact the consulate? I thought I had to wait til 60 days or 12 weeks that is quoted on the UKBA website? This would be good news. And yes an email to my partner's MP seems hopeful.

Hoping to day I hear something! Day 47!

nickiboo17, I am really really hoping this is your day.....! I still feel stressed out over this process waiting for your approval and know how awful the wait is for you. It does seem like they are making great progress though so I don't see how it can be much longer. Chin up!
Patiently waiting for visas!

Congrats Sarah and Dukespecial!!!!! You both must be so relieved!!!

Thanks everyone, congrats to all those who got theirs yesterday!

Nicki relieved is not the word to describe it. I am now able to sit at work not feeling anxious one bit and now enjoying coming in this morning to start the countdown not count up! I am still on a high right now then when it fully sets in there is no more time apart that will be even better. The best part is even after the long wait it seems like there is so much to get sorted in so little time!

We both were really hoping you would hear something, as you deserved to hear something first after such a long wait but the working day is about to start in less than an hour so fingers crossed and all that jazz for you. Sure you will get it soon!
