Where are y'all headed and what for?
« on: July 26, 2010, 05:30:47 AM »
I'm Sarah- I'm going to Leeds Uni for a Masters in Theatre and I was wondering what the rest of y'all were doing.  I decided to go to Leeds because I love Yorkshire, and I have a man that lives there incidentally.  ;) I'm really excited for my course to start.

Either to Bradford to do an MSc in Human Osteology and Palaeopathology or to Durham to do a MSc in Palaeopathology.  Have been accepted for both, but should find out about funding in the next few days.  Starting to get on my nerves, this waiting.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

University of Sheffield BA Business Management Studies. Pretty excited! So missie...can't help but notice the y'all...where are you from originally? They don't use that term up north! ;) I am from Texas by the way! Hooray Yorkshire I just love that area! I've discovered their North is like our South, people are more relaxed and are very friendly!

Ha! I'm originally from California, but I worked in Mobile, Alabama for almost 4 years.  I don't say "fixin' to" but I just can't get y'all out of my vocabulary.  ;)

my bf is going to Kings College London for a MSc in Forensic Chemistry.  ;D
That program is really neat, and the people are really nice/helpful. I looked into it while I was there back in Nov/Dec.

I decided on doing an MRes in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham.  (i'm also going up there to be with my DB :P)

Yeah he's super excited. They said he is the only American in the program and one of the few with a chemistry degree. It was his first choice and he didn't think he would get in but they were impressed with his phone interview I guess  :P what's great is that our universities are down the street from each other. Less than a mile away.

I'm getting an HNC in Computing at University of Highlands and Islands, Inverness College. It's the first year of a BSc :o) And, as Sarah said, incidentally Inverness is where my BF lives.

I'm Hannah and I'm headed to University College Falmouth for a MA in TV production.  Been to London 3 times but never anywhere else.  Might be dumb ques but you planning on staying after you finish?  My visa only lasts 2 months after the course ends, dumb rules with it not officially being a year long even though it is.  I hope to go for a PSW visa before I am done.  Anyone else doing the same thing?

Headed to University of Birmingham in Sept! Can't wait. I'm from Texas as well so "y'all" is in my vocab for good. I couldn't get rid of it if I wanted! LOL. I am planning to stay after if I am able to get a job in the UK. Hopefully!

I'd like to do a PsW visa as well, but I'm going to wait and see how happy I am there, before seriously thinking about it.

While living and going to school in the UK is an amazing oportunity that I'm taking advantage of, I'm here because this is where my BF lives (he has roots and I don't). So yes, I'm hoping to stay after I finish school :o)

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I moved here on a student visa to be with my then bf now husband. Will you eventually be switching to a UPV?

We haven't really planned that far ahead. I know that renewing my student visa every year isn't going to be the cheapest/easiest way to do this but we won't have hit the magic 2 years of cohabitation before I need to re-up. At this point, having dealt with my comparitively uncomplicated Student Visa, I'm ready to elope to Gretna Green and be done with it  ;)

Sorry, there isn't anymore eloping to Gretna Green! Like the rest of the UK, Scotland has had a required notice period for a long time now, minimum 15 days. On the bright side, they're doing away with CoA, so you will eventually be able to just get hitched without needing permission from the Home Office!
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012
FINALLY A CITIZEN! 29/2/2012
