I know this is reviving a post, but, I *finally* found myself some wellies today. They were cheap and cheerful(£10, from George). They're silver/grey, with glitter all over them. They did pinch a bit, so, I put a slit on the back using a stanley knife. After a while, they felt rather comfy. And working at a nursery that's on a working farm, and having to take the kids to the farm on occasion, £10's a bargain. When I lose that stone that I'm supposed to lose ::), I can repair them with a bit of duct tape.

There are a lot of really cute cheap-and-cheerful wellies out there, but do be aware that they won't have great support. And they not be comfortable if worn for very long. If you're going to be spending a lot of time wearing yours, you might want to consider investing in some quality wellies. For just pulling on for short times, those cute ones are great though!  :)

Oh yeah, the wellies are for the workplace only. I wouldn't have even gotten them if I didn't have to, but, I do.   :P

We're having a parent's meeting next week, and there's gonna be a bit about the children needing wellies, so us employees have to do our bit and get ours as well. And we'd only take the children out for a walk about on the farm, just to let them see the animals and things like that, and then straight back into the nursery.

For everything else(walking with DH, etc) I just wear my waterproofs and waterproof hiking boots.

I just couldn't justify spending over £10 for something that I know I'll use so little. ;)

If you have that problem where you need wide leg boots you might want to try these -

They're a bargain for £15 and I wore mine all last winter, I might buy another pair for this winter :)

Thanks, CB! This is probably the only website I hadn't seen yet. I loved the comment one of the women made saying that when they arrived to her, they were too wide and she wished that the company would've said, and now she had to go thru the hassle of returning them. Gosh, it's alright for some!  :P

Oh there's a Priceless shoe shop right near where I work - I'll have to go look!  :)

I wear wellies mainly for gardening, and last year when we had heavy snow, as although we live in the suburbs of Leeds, there was about six inches on the pavements between our house and the bus stops. Usually I'd wear hiking boots in the snow as they are warmer, but on frozen snow the wellies had a better grip.

It's worth remembering that wellies don't keep your feet warm, so if you're intending to wear them for a long period of time, buy them big enough to accommodate a pair of thick socks.

Thanks HME- my Lake District born boy has finally admitted that he thinks I need wellies.  I want the Le Chameau ones with the leather interior- should I still buy big enough for socks?

Oh they had the Priceless ones in the shop by where I work!  I think I'm going to get some.  But today I had shopping bags full of Superdrug stockup stuff & also I didn't take thick socks or anything to try on with the Wellies today.  I like that shop & I'm hoping I can find some other shoes there - had never been before because I always figured, oh they won't have wide sizes, etc.

I never really needed or wanted Wellies before, but for £15 - why not?!  When we were at the beach this last weekend, I sort of wanted some Wellies when we went to the beach after the sun went down.  Usually I'll wear my hiking boots for most things instead, but I also thought Wellies might be moderately more stylish for trudging to work in the rain (like this morning - lol!).  Before winter comes, I want to get me some of those Yak Trax to put over my shoes or boots for traction on the ice this year.

Oh they're the best thing ever for the black ice that likes to coat the pavements! (In the north pole here we'll have black ice next week  ;) :P)

Unrelated, when you said you got a job working at a nursery on a farm I was thinking a plant nursery and it was only in the last couple of days I realized it was a day-care. [smiley=dunce.gif]

That's what I've heard.  And after last year, clinging onto a pole at the bus stop (on a slight hill) for dear life (from slipping & falling) with about 3 other women all at the same time while we waited together for the bus, I've had enough of no traction!  :)

Believe me, I used to get confused about it myself! :D

Evans have brought out a range of wide fit wellies for £20, I quite like these -

I didn't buy an extra payless pair, so may have to "invest" in those instead :D

I have these really cool pink wellies with a koi on the outside of them.  They fit really well except the left one rubs on my ankle bone (the big round park that sticks out on the outside of your foot).  Any idea why this is or what I can do to make it stop?  I've worn them a lot (despite needing Band-Aids and bleeding every. single. time) so they should be "broken in" (although all wellies are kinda stiff anyway).
