That cold pit in your stomach...
« on: August 08, 2010, 11:45:43 AM »
My visa has been at the LA consulate (unexpedited) for 7 working days.  I've been really chill about it thus far, but tonight I am experiencing serious anxiety.  The boy found a gorgeous house for us in Leeds (we can afford it, and it's lovely- with a deck over a canal) and I'm freaking out.  He sent in for the paperwork, because he knows it's going to get snatched up immediately.  If I don't get my visa, and we have to reapply, he can cover the cost of the house- so my not being there won't financially cripple him.  But, I want to be there.  I want to quit my crappy server/bartender job.  I want to go to the graduate school that accepted me.  :\\\'(  I really don't want my visa to be denied.  I guess I just needed a little vent because I'm having a rough night and I know I have to work at my crappy job for the next three days.

Where is the house?  If it's Rodley, you're going to be a long way out from the action, longer commute, away from shops, more awkward public transportation, etc.  (I ask because I know of a few like that in Rodley).  However, if it's in Leeds proper then that sounds pretty sweet!  :)

I'm sure your visa will come through, though perhaps not as soon as you'd like!  You'll be here before you know it.  :)

Thanks Mrs. R. The boy would prefer to live in Rodley, as his brother lives there and he likes it there.  But, we'll have a car- and he'll drive me into Uni.

I think it may be in Horsforth (sp) though.

I can't imagine why they would refuse you! I'm sure it will come through for you!  :)

Horsforth is pretty cool, of course!  ;)  Then you'd be neighbours with Andee & me.

Thanks for the replies friends.  I'm trying to take it easy, and my mom found me a natural sleep aid at Whole Foods called "Sleeping Beauty" and it seems to help.  A little.  Tomorrow is Day 10 of SarahVisa Watch 2010, which the LA consulate says 98% of Tier 4's are processed by- so that will be scary time for me.  A denial would really throw a wrench into our plans.  But, not be insurmountable.  Just really sad and inconvenient.  Whatever it is, we'll figure it out.  Hopefully.

He decided not to take the house, saying he thought it was out of the way, but I think he's waiting to choose something until we hear about my visa.  He looks at a house or a flat everyday, but I get the feeling he's dragging his feet.  The place is Horsforth he sees tomorrow looks gorgeous, but I really think we're going to end up waiting until my visa is issued.  Or we at least hear from the embassy.  I keep trying to keep myself positive.  Thanks again for the support.

Wow, looks like I will have to make a quick trip to Whole Foods too. It is 3:37am and I am having cereal and wondering why I don't at least try to sleep. Insomnia big time.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you ,Sarah! Really hope things go smoothly! All of us here go through some trying times in the name of love, but it is all worth it ;)

Thanks- best to you and your man as well.  It's a hard road, these international relationships.

Sarah I really wouldn't worry, you have a place at a real university, a well known one to do a masters course, you have the funding in place and you've never had any immigration trouble, there's zero reason to refuse you, your visa will come, they're just slammed with visas to process right now, but in a day or so, someone will pick up your file print your little visa sticker and you'll be on your way.

Thanks ladies.  I'm concerned because I didn't provide bank statements showing I had enough money for a plane ticket- as I was told that it was all included in my student loan package.  At the time, I didn't have the money.  I don't get my Student loan until September 22, so there could be an issue with them thinking I don't have enough funding before that point.  So, that's my stress of the day.

Again, thanks CB and MLG, you're right- I'm just being craazy.  ;)

Oh honey, I know that feeling all too well :(  You WILL BE FINE!  I know my saying that isn't nearly as reassuring as having that visa in your hand but what CB and MLG said is so true...Just try to remember your breathing and not drink too much coffee (:)) and you will get it in no time...I want you to be my neighbor!  I need someone to help me find a new wardrobe :)  xxx

I don't believe that having money for a ticket when you apply is part of the T4 criteria, and if it isn't, they don't care.

from UKBA -
have paid all or part of your course fees and (if relevant) accommodation fees to your Tier 4 sponsor; and/or
are receiving official financial sponsorship; and/or
have enough money to cover your remaining course fees and living costs, if any.

From seeing a thousand people get their student visas on this site and others, the likelihood of them refusing on those grounds is infinitesimal, if they have any need for clarification, you'll likely get a call to confirm your student loan disbursement. Which if you submitted your documentation, they wont need to do.

I know it's horrible and stressful and awful, but don't ruin your last days in the US worrying about your visa, go eat Mexican food and spend time with your family, enjoy yourself because that visa will come and you will go (to the ball!) :)
