Hehehe ,thanks! I'll shout it loud and proud- Broad Beans = VOMIT!  I wouldn't care - wouldn't buy them on my own or anything, its just that keep showing up in my veggie box- and he doesn't take out anything you don't like  :(

Hopefully they'll go out of season soon so he'll stop putting them in there. I'm sure someone at your work would gladly take them off your hands, but it does stink giving something away that you're paying for.  :-\\\\

PB - are you using Scotgro? 'cause we got broad beans these last two weeks as well. Last time we subbed them for white beans in a chicken/leek/whitebean recipe but this week we need to do something else.

I do- and I have on my dislike list that I don't like them but still got them  :-\\\\
So I will need to make it more known that I think they're vile :)

I can trade you broadbeans for beets! Yum!! I love beets! Beetroot curry, roasted, cooked and sliced in salads, marinated in oranges...

Ooh, but if you want to use them in a way you can't taste them, make a beetroot chocolate cake- definitely doesn't taste like beets and is nice and moist -

Anyone have a way to make a pudding with broad beans?

Beetroots=Borscht! Yummy, yummy, yummy.

That said, I also like broad beans. I tend to shell them and use them with pasta and a bit of balsamic vinegar. I like them mashed for dipping as well. Maybe they'd be nice all chopped up in some sort of salad?

That's what my BF wants to do with them.  I don't know what it is.

If I hate them we get more next week, I may just take you up on that! (The broad beans are odd but not bad. I'm going to try shelling them this week and see if it helps.)

Borscht is...well, beetroot soup. :)  My family always makes it super simple. Roast some garlic and throw it and the scrubbed beets into a pan with water just covering them (about a pound of beets? About 4 regular sized ones?).  Let simmer for about 35 minutes until they're tender, and then drain the water and garlic away (save about a cup of the beet water for later in case). Then, scrub the skin off the beets (should be SUPER easy after they've been boiled) and chop up and throw in a blender. Now, if I was in the US I would add a cup or two of buttermilk. Here, I add greek yogurt (you just want something with a kick) and just...blend. It will be this fantastic pink colour and it's yummy! Add some of the beetroot water if you need to adjust the consistency. If you have a hubby who likes garlic (mine is quite "garlic sensitive") you could add some of the roasted garlic to the blender and puree it in as well. Or chives. Or whatever!

Oh we have buttermilk! I buy it for soda bread and pancakes though it's in the 6" wide "ethnic" (by which they mean "Polish") refrigerated section. Although I had to learn the Polish word for buttermilk to find it (maslanka).

Hey, that's a great idea.  I've seen tiny things of buttermilk at Sainsbury's every once in awhile, but I haven't had a look in the "randoms" section (which is what the "ethnic" section is called at our house). It's excellent with buttermilk.

Might be worth double checking if the buttermilk you're buying is "cultured buttermilk", if it is, it's not buttermilk, i.e milk left over from making butter but is just milk that has been turned into buttermilk by adding bacteria to it.

If it's cultured buttermilk, you might as well just sour milk to make acidified buttermilk yourself as it's cheaper and not much different :)

Laura, did you shell them completely - the little skin around the legume aswell as the outer pod? I love them but maybe they are an acquired taste.

I did, the big hairy pod and then the little white shell...  :-\\\\

Maybe if they are younger beans I'd like 'em better?  I have no idea...  ???
