Hi ya'll! Well I'm going and visiting on vaca in a month *eek!* I'm so excited. Anyways, when some of my friends from England visited here they were able to get a proper u.s. credit/travel card so that it swiped like ours do. When I went to the U.K. to study abroad I didnt even THINK about our cards not working very well over there. (As I got denied at some shops because they wouldn't type it in or didn't have anything to swipe it with). I wanted to get one if I was able too that would have the pin in it? Or just easier to use whilst there cause I hate carrying around cash. Is it possible? Has anyone ever heard of it before? Any help would be appreciative. That way, hopefully with my bank statement and money on that card it should show that I have enough just for a visit and am not planning on staying any longer. Thanks muchly!!!!

I'm normally not a cash person but that's what I used when I came over to visit 'cause I could pull money out from Barclay's ATMs without getting penalized but if I used my debit/credit card to buy something there was per-use fee. Didn't even occure to me to get a visa gift card or anything like that.

Yeah, I was curious if any like prepaid card would be best, I'd keep my US credit cards for emergency use and get a prepaid one that I can take money out at an ATM once I get there. I'm so not sure what to use and my trip is creeping up slowly but quickly at the same time haha.

Have you asked your bank? I had BofA and they have some kind of agreement with Barclay's which is why the international use fee was waved at Barclay's ATMs (Hole in the Wall).  Your bank may have a similar partnership. And the CC gift cards seem readily available here so if you decide to just load one up it should be easy enough. I'm not sure what the protocol is for getting the money off the card again, should you not use it all.

I have a small local bank here that I deal with. I could ask but I don't think they do. I'm pretty sure when I mentioned it last time I was going abroad they didn't have anything, just told me the fees for using my card abroad at any atm machine.
