Passport not returned with Provisional license...

Okay, I'm trying not to worry , or be stressed about this. But I got my provisional license in the mail last week and I've not had my passport returned (that was sent off with the application).

Should I be worried? Or is the norm?

I think I got my passport back in a separate envelope from my provisional license, but they either arrived on the same day or my passport arrived first.

Is there a number you can call to verify that they've sent off your passport? If they gave you the license they should be done with it.

They get sent back separately. However, I seem to remember getting my passport back before my license (within a day or so of each other). You'll probably get your passport in the next couple of days, but I agree that you should phone the DVLA if you're worried.

This was my experience too.  My passport arrived a few days earlier than my license.

keep us updated on if you get it back. This is my main concern about getting a provisional!

I sent my prov. app. and passport together special delivery or something so I had a tracking number. It cost £5.  I also enclosed a return envelop special delivery with postage paid - another £5 - so I could track the return.  Here's the key:  write down the tracking number of the return envelope because the DVLA won't. I was able to track the return of my passport = peace of mind. The prov. lic. and the passport arrived in their separate envelopes on the same day.

Maybe I'm not reading this right? Why do we have to send in the passport in the first place? I have two. US and UK. Daaaaaar.

If you are already a UK citizen and have a digital UK passport you can just enter the passport number on your application form for a provisional driving licence as id.  You don't even have to send a photo, DVLA can use the one from your passport.  You don't have to send a passport at all.

But if you don't yet have a UK passport this can't be done.  You have to send your US passport to the DVLA as proof of identity.  So it can be a worrying time waiting for it to come back - one of your most precious possessions for so many reasons.

My partner sent the application special delivery enclosing passport and application and a prepaid special delivery envelope self-addressed for the return of the passport.  As per one of the previous posters.  Note the tracking numbers of both envelopes so you can check on their progress.  The whole process took only a week.  Sent Monday, passport returned Saturday and licence received Monday.  But me - worried sick ....

Just FYI, you may still have to send in your passport. I got my UK passport (issued in the US) in August 2009 but had to send it in when I applied for my provisional license in June 2010. This may be because my passport was new and wasn't in the DVLA system, or it may be because it was issued outside of the UK.

Applied for the provisional online and just received the paper app from the post. Now I'm a bit confused,

How many Identiy Documents do I need to send in? They haven't specified but there's spaces for 2 document details (Type/Number) that need to be filled out. The docs I have that will suffice is my Bio Resident Card and my U.S. passport. if I can send just one of those the better.
