I really need to get out more - I have never heard of most of these and I don't know what they are....

It seems chocolate is the theme but is there any candy/sweet that isn't chocolate you love?

US Candy Fruit Gems? are there anything like that here?

Someone mentioned wine gums. I love them! And Starburst - which are just like the ones in the US but with the added bonus of the DELICIOUS blackcurrant flavoured ones. I love lemon sherbets but they have to be good ones. DH likes parma violets, but I don't really like them.

Yummy, a candy thread - I eat way too much of the stuff!!

And Starburst - which are just like the ones in the US but with the added bonus of the DELICIOUS blackcurrant flavoured ones. I love lemon sherbets but they have to be good ones. DH likes parma violets, but I don't really like them.

I always take out the blackcurrant flavor to give to DH - I can't stand blackcurrant, and it only makes me miss grape so much more as it was my favorite flavor of anything in the US!  Parma violets are so strange!  They taste like flowers, or perfume!

I love Haribo Starmix, Cadbury and Galaxy caramel and Wispa gold, those foamy fruits that taste like Circus peanuts but in different flavors, aniseed and peppermint balls, Milkybars, Aftereights, Cadbury Creme Eggs and Twisted bars, Polos, Terry's Chocolate Orange, Mint Aero, Minstrels and of course Thornton's chocolate which I get really cheap at Asda.  I really love the chocolate here and the things I miss from home (besides Reese's) are all other chewy, fruity sweets.

Do you mean like the orange slices and such?  I got some "fruit jellies" thinking they would be similar but they weren't really, I didn't like them at all though I don't remember why now.  And I can't find any decent gumdrops or Spice gumdrops either.  Fruit pastilles are all right though.

I'm the opposite. I hate pretend grape flavour. Blech!

Well, parma violets are violet-flavoured, so it makes sense they'd taste like flowers!  ;)

Fruit pastilles are all right though.

I forgot about fruit pastilles! I love them!

Wine gums...all the way!  I even do like the blackcurrant flavor...that one is my favorite!  I eat all the other flavors first, then save the blackcurrant for last.  Mmmm

Also, I've had Parma Violets before and I really enjoyed them.  Those are a bit hard to get in the States, though.

Hubby usually likes the Licorice Allsorts...he can have 'em.

US:  Reeses' Pieces, Peanut M&M's & Whoppers plus Goobers

UK:  Strawberry bonbon's, Parma Violets & Galaxy Dark ... and Bueno White Chocolate.

Most things chocolate.

Although I might have one or two if it's around (Haribou, lemon sherbert, etc), anything else (other than chocolate) really doesn't float my boat & I can much more easily resist.

I like wine gums too, but only if they're soft.  When they're dry they stick to your teeth, and I hate that.  Also, soft Jelly Babies.  Fruit pastilles are all right, but I think the Fruit Gems are better... I really used to like those.  I also like Fruitella, which are like Starburst, but with interesting flavours like blackcurrant, pear, etc.

Jenn, try some of the Haribo... the tuttifrutti ones or tropifrutti (can't remember what they are called) they have them at Lidl, they are awesome. Wine Gums are definitely good (they don't taste like wine... unfortunately. I was kind of bummed to find out they were just candy.  :P) My husband loves Bassett's All Sorts, but I'm not keen on licorice. If you like licorice, you would love them. Why not try some Pick & Mix from somewhere? Next time you go to the movies or to a newstand that has sweets, just try some different ones.  :)

I get Skittles when we go to the movies but I make my BF eat the black currant ones. I hate it - though, tbf, my first exposure to it was black currant flavoured lemsip.

We get a Chocolate Tasting Club box once a month from Hotel Chocolat which I think is just pure indulgence.

I bought a bunch of candy bars to mail to a British friend back in the states but I got bored and ate some of them and this one kind was the best candy bar I'd ever had...but I can't remember which ones I liked and which ones I didn't :o/

We have a British shop in Atlantic City (area) and my mom LOVES chocolate and she got a bar but it was milk and she said it was ok...
Since I am not a chocolate lover I don't know what is best.

I am thinking of bringing a few bars of good chocolate back (dark) for my mom...

Suggestions?

I might be slapped for blasphemy, but don't waste money on Cadbury's dark chocolate.  It actually has a lower cocoa content than, for example, German supermarket milk chocolates like Ritter Sport or Milka.  Even store brand dark chocolate here in the UK has a higher cocoa content.  (I discovered this when I wanted some dark chocolate for a recipe, and was minutes away from purchasing a Cadbury Bourneville bar.  Then I read the ingredients!)  Maybe try Green and Blacks?  I'd personally recommend Lindt but I know it's hardly local, and it's readily available in the US.

(btw, I'm not a fan of Hershey's either, so my comments re: Cadbury's aren't meant to suggest I prefer US chocolate.  If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick Cadbury's, and hope it was a Fruit and Nut bar on offer! :) )

For chocolate bars here, I discovered Nestle Lion bars at the local market.  They are lovely!  They seem to be considered a bit old-fashioned, but if you haven't tried one, and like crunchy, caramel-y things, I highly recommend them.

As for US candy, I pine for Sour Patch Kids.
