Hi! Moving to London!
« on: August 13, 2010, 04:06:27 PM »
Hi Everyone!

My husband has been accepted into SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies) in London, so we will be moving there mid September.  He'll be working on his Masters degree, so we'll only be there for a year. But we want to make the most of it!  My mom took me to the UK when I was younger and I loved it.  My husband and I have graduate student housing, so we won't need to worry about finding an apartment and we'll be living right near campus.  I believe it's in Camden Town.

Since I'm the wife of a full-time student, I believe I'm allowed to work.  I don't want a serious job, just something to make me some extra change.  Maybe a job in a gym or doggie-daycare!  LoL.  I'm hoping I won't have a hard time finding a simple job.  If any of you have any tips, please feel free to share!  I just really want to enjoy this year and have the opportunity to do some traveling.

One year to play in the UK and travel how perfect and with the hubby - what an adventure! I am not sure about the working part but good luck!

Hello and welcome to UKY!  :)

Camden Town is a fun, lively area and so close to Regent's Park, which is beautiful!

You can always look into dog-walking jobs. I used to see ads for those posted on websites every once in a while. I will say that finding a simple job wasn't the easiest thing for me to do and took about three months until I got one. I ended up at a temping agency for a while which led to working in some museums around London. You can always try for that as well, although I'll admit that museum work is quite boring!

Be sure to head over to the jobs and CV section to look around as there's loads of advice there!
