Hello-Question
« on: August 14, 2010, 03:48:36 PM »
Hello everyone,

This is my first time here. I have a few questions.

I have a 5 yr work permit to work in the U.K. and we have been here 2 yrs so far. I am interested in applying for dual citizenship. My grandfather was in the Royal Navy and a citizen of the U.S.

Can my Grandfather's citizenship allow me to apply for dual citizenship/Right To Abode and if so, what specific paperwork will I need to get a passport/citizenship? I'm assuming this will entitle me to benefits that aren't available to me and my family under my work permit due to the "No access to public funds" clause. I am checking the U.K. Border Agency site as well.

Any help here would be great and thanks.

Unfortnately having a British grandparent doesn't make you British or eligible to Dual Citizenship. It is dependent on what your parent(s) citizenship is.

Where were your parents born?
Were they married at the time of your birth?
Where & what year were you born?

However, with a British Grandparent & if you were born in the Commonwealth you may qualify for anAncestry visa, but I do believe that it still carries the 'no public funds' clause.

Unfortunately, the UK isn't like Ireland and won't pass citizenship through the Grandparent. I wish, then I could be visa free!!
I've never gotten food on my underpants!
Work permit (2007) to British Citizen (2014)
You're stuck with me!
