One of my best friends became a US citizen last winter and administered the practice test to me (out loud) the night before as a way to study, haha.  She's in law school so she really didn't need to study much just needed a reminder on a couple of questions (like....how many representatives are there again?).  If I recall, I did really well, only got stuck on a couple.  She said the test was really easy and much shorter than the practice version so I dunno how much really changed since 2008.  Her "English test" consisted of writing the sentence: Columbus Day is in October.

The ceremony, btw, was dreadful.  Or at least, the hours and hours her husband and I spent bored and hungry in the courthouse was!  We thought we'd be out in a couple hours and could get breakfast after, at a reasonable hour but it took ages for them to process all of the new citizens.  The ceremony itself was rather short and bureaucratic.

I don't think I was even given an English test, even though technically that was part of it. I think the person administering the test could see that I was a native English speaker as well as a university student at the time.

The ceremony was weird. I really didn't like the pledge, so I just sort of stood there and didn't say it. Fortunately, there were enough people there at the time that it didn't really make a difference.

They said that you had to move your lips if you didn't say it (if you didn't understand what was being said, presumably, but if that was the case, I doubt they would've understood that announcement!) or they might not grant the citizenship and you had to start over.  I saw a couple of people not moving their lips though, and as far as I know, no one got called out.  There were hundreds of people being sworn in (this was in downtown Brooklyn).

I got 100% (US history major  [smiley=blush.gif])

I honestly think this test is valuable.  If the Life in the UK test asked questions with interesting and useful answers, I wouldn't mind so much having to take it.

It wasn't hundreds when I did it, but a good sized crowd of probably over 100, so nobody noticed. I just objected to what they wanted me to say, so it was own personal little protest.  :P

89%.. one I missed because I asked DH if he agreed with me and he said no.  I went with his answer it was wrong.  Mine was right!  ;)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

100%.  But I was a history major as well.  Plus all of the explaining I did of the US government during the last elections helped.

I got 72% - OK I guess, as I am not American, left North America a long time ago and high school was even longer ago when I learned about American politics.

84% I'm with Karrit on humming SchoolHouse Rock as I took the test.  "In 1787, I'm told our founding fathers did agree, to write a list of principles that's for keeping people free..."  ;)

SchoolHouse Rock

Maybe that's what I need to watch to remind me about what I have forgotten?  :P Though some of it was more recent, like the name of Obama's running mate..... :o

When I was in high school we had as an essay on a test in US History where we had to write out the preamble - the whole class was humming it.  8)

And the only reason I know the Gettysburg Address by heart is because I've seen Hair about a gazillion times!  ;D

I got 77/96. Clearly didn't pay as much attention in class as I thought I did. The whole Senators thing messed me up!  :P Oh well, it was fun anyways! :)
