DCF question
« on: August 17, 2010, 08:14:43 PM »
Hi everyone. I've been having some problems. I left the UK for good a month after filing the I-130 on May 25th for my husband and have now moved back to the good ole USA. The application was made a bit hastily, I still have no case number, and have received nothing back but a request for more information- USCIS London wanted my husband's birth certificate and a few other things. Which sounded a little odd. I have the letter because I was in London for a few days at the address I'd given in the application (I had hoped it would be approved by then), and now that I'm back in the US I'm trying to reroute the application to be processed in the US. Or whatever I can do. Our addresses have changed, we have left the UK permanently after living there for six years, and I know the green card will take a long time but I'm just trying to get it started. I know USCIS charged my card $355 so something is happening, but I've called the information line (the same as the extortion line but from the US it's a free 800 number) several times, found that they couldn't find my husband's name (he's in Moscow and will be until we sort this out), they gave me a number so I could email Londonconsular.gov and not be deleted but I was bounced back. Any hunches, advice?

So you and your husband are not in the UK? I believe if that is the case you are no longer eligible to file DCF, that is for people who are living in the UK at the time of application. Also it takes months to get approved, so if you applied at the end of May it will easily be end of September at the earliest you would get approval, and your husband will have to do an interview at the US Embassy in London.

The best thing you can do, I would think, is withdraw your application and apply from within the US for his green card, which is a much longer process. I would also check out visajourney.com, someone there may be able to give you a contact number or email that works.

Hello, I have a new question if anyone is around- I'm attaching it to my old question. I finally got the approval for the I-130, at the end of September as Andrea922 posted. This wasn't bad considering I had to mail further evidence and that it took me a long time to collect it. I'm in Florida, my husband is in Russia, and the document says the case will be transferred to Moscow. That's good. Applying from London may have worked out after all. But there is still no case number, and no further instruction. I have no idea what to do- is this normal? I thought I'd receive a case number at the very least. I think I need to go ahead and do the I-864 and make sure my husband starts his police certificates. Highly appreciate any ideas- there don't seem to be many forums in English for American-Russian couples of the non mail-order bride type, and it's all so mystifying!

It took about 3 weeks for the letter from the visa unit to be sent to my husband. I received the notice of approval for the I-130 on 14 September and he just received the letter from the visa unit advising him that they've received the approved petition and assigning him a case number and what the next steps are on 2 October. We still live in the UK at the same home as when we applied

If you've switched his address to Russia then the DHS unit in London has to send the approved petition to Moscow and then they will send out the letter to your husband. So I can see that there might be a bit of a delay in the letter getting sent, but look for it in about a month.
