Just back on this site after Christmas.

My friend bought me a case of Williams beers (from Scotland as I'm sure many of you already know).
The Seven Giraffes is particularly nice!

Ohhhh, yes... we know the Williams beers very well (we also know the brewers)...  I agree, 7 Giraffes is nice... hopefully you will have got a bottle of Joker as well?  Love that stuff... and then there is Double Joker at 8.3%, which is lethal, but at least you die smiling.

We had a brilliant time in Huddersfield, but the Grove was slightly disappointing.  This time round, we preferred the Rat & Ratchet, and the Sportsmans near the station.

Best place we went to over the 3 days was in Todmorden... the bright pink place across the road from Morrisons in the Rochdale Road... called Bare Arts.  Initially I'd thought it was an off-sales, selling bottles of their own beer, but they also serve it in there... the old fashioned way:  bottle-conditioned beers, decanted into little jugs, and then poured into small glasses.  And the beer was absolutely brilliant... i tried several, from the 4.6% Cascade, to the 8.8% Pale Barley Wine.  I can't wait to get back there again sometime!

Ooh, that sounds nice.  Was the blueberry taste quite prominent?  I have tasted various blueberry beers that didn't taste of the berry at all... apart from one I had at the Head of Steam in Huddersfield, which was amazing, but I can't remember the name/brewery!

and also check out The Sportsman.....left after the hotel opposite station,, and it's just other side of the railway bridge.

Went to this place last week and loved it.  We were the only punters in the place, and the barman chatted to us and gave us cake and was really friendly.  The beer wasn't that great... Pale Rider is the only one I remember just now... but maybe it was just an off-day.  We would definitely go back to this pub next time... which could be in a couple of weeks, as we are planning to go back to Manchester for the Winter Ales Fest, and Huddersfield's only half an hour away.  :)

Just saw an advert in the CAMRA beer magazine for a new beer by Theakstons called Lightfoot... meant to taste of peaches and honey, so I love the idea of it!
Anyone tried it yet?

I finally had some of this, in the Navigation Tavern in Mirfield on New Years Day (it's a Patrick Stewart thing!), but it was really dull and bland.  No discernable taste of peaches or honey.  Oh well, at least now I know!

No, its not too blueberry at all -it just has the nice overtones  -definitely more oatmeal stout than fruity- but all the same very yummy!

When are you planning to go the the Winter Ale Fest? I'm thinking of going on the Thursday afternoon. So far it looks like just me unless I can muster some folks from Barnsley Camra.

aww, shame.
To me there's no point drinking it if you can't taste the blueberries.

Yeah, we are going on the Thursday.  I think our train gets in around mid-day, we'll probably drop our stuff off at the hotel, and then head out to the Sheridan Suite.

I only had the one pint, I am aiming to have more, hopefully it will taste more blueberrish  -
I do love a very Blueberry beer -microbrew in the US from Wachusett Brewery - when its served on tap, they usually float the blueberries in it.  If I ever have room in my suitcase to bring some back from the US, I will share with you!  :-*

Yay  :)

One of the best fruit beers I have ever tasted was 3 years ago, during the Wetherspoons ale fest, and it was a Polish PLUM beer and it tasted thoroughly of PLUMS and I was in love!

Never seen it since, but... it makes me want to go to Poland on a mission!

DW had the Wachusett Blueberry when we were Boston (it was on tap), she normally likes fruit beers but didn't like that, and she loves blueberries!
