I don't you can fail on crossing hands.  It can get you a minor though.  At least that is what the boards at the driving instructor website say.   


That's right - you cant fail for it, but I didn't even get a minor for it.  I had 4 minors on my test and that wasn't one of them.  My point to the OP was that if you feel like you're having to over-concentrate and worry about the "push/pull" method of steering (which is how I felt because it was so unnatural), then let it go.   It wont cause you to fail unless you lose control of the steering wheel.

I will probably do the push pull method while I'm driving but with the maneuvers, I think I'll stick to crossing over hands.

I wonder of their reaction if you had a "necker" knob attached to the steering wheel and then you could use just one hand. (all you are too young to know what they are ;))
