Cures for a funky mood?
« on: August 24, 2010, 03:50:03 PM »
I've been feeling....not altogether down, but, not as...well, not necessarily chipper. So, I've added lots and lots of music to my mp3 player that makes my mood meteorically. It's worked a treat! I popped my player in while I was hoovering, and I sang along, and it just made me feel sooo much better. What does everyone else do? ;)

In no particular order

1.) Put on the Grateful Dead and "hippie dance" as fast and as hard as I can

2.) Pull out one of my musical instruments and blow/bang/strum away or sing at the top of my lungs

3.) Pull out my boxing gloves and blow up punching bag and throw punches (I miss my boxing class from my old life in Miami-  that was fantastic stress relief!)

4.) Have a couple of drinks

5.) Email/Call my family/friends from home

6.) Swim laps in the pool

7.)  Colour/draw/paint

I suffer from depression, so over the years I've had to find ways to lift myself up  :)

-Listen to music from when I was a kid/teenager.  Something about nostalgia really perks me up.  I think part of it also is that I listened to a lot less sad ba$tard music back then.  ;)

-Call my friend Amanda.  She is both my talk-it-out and good-for-laughs friend.  She works wonders. :)

-Watch Seinfeld

-Eat magnum bars.  This is a new thing and I love it.

-Take a bath with lots of good smelling bubbly stuff.  Remain there until thoroughly pruned.

-Have a beer, glass of wine, or whatever with a friend.

-Eat cheese.  My "funky mood" cheese is usually brie baked with a bit of honey.  Then I dip things in it.  It pleases me immensely.  :P

And the big one...
-Call my mommy.  :)

I also like having a nice lunch in a pub, with a good book, which I did yesterday and today. I have discovered one in our town that's nothing like the Weatherspoon's by the bus station. I bought some books. Texted with a friend. Sang along to a song that reminded me of good times with my friends in California. Talked and laughed with DH. Mood sorted even more! :D

Music is definitely key for me. I love my tunes and can always lift myself up with them, or totally let myself sink to the bottom of despair (The Cure Disintegration, anyone?  :P) and just cry it out and get over it. I get sick of that after a while and then have to listen to some good old punk rock or other music that makes me want to hop around and scream and go nuts.  :)

Also, just walking on the beach or around the pier breathing in the fresh sea air completely clears my head and makes me feel immensely better. But the ultimate is throwing stones or sticks for my silly dog, her cute little face with her big tongue hanging out will always make me smile, no matter how crappy my mood is.  ;D

Good thing they come only 3 to a box!  I've just discovered them, too!

Loads of great ideas here.  I've tried to remember what I do and the only thing I came up with is get into bed with lots of pillows and read.  I should try some of these other great suggestions the next time!

My DH doesn't like to snuggle me when I'm in a funky mood.  :-\\\\

Oh well mine doesn't if I've been nagging or griping at him for something.  But if it's just that I feel sad/weepy/depressed/stressed/etc - then he is all about the cuddles.

I <3 the Cure!!!! I do have to admit, I dearly miss walking near water. Our town's park is being rebuilt, and the lake's behind miles and miles of fencing, so, even though I can see it and all, it's not really the same. Can't wait til it's finished, though! There's some great new bridges going over the lake.

-Wander around Target
-Sit at a cafe with a book
-Crank up favorite music and cook something very elaborate requiring lots of chopping
-Make myself a fancy cocktail in a fancy glass and then curl up in front of the TV
-Go out to dinner
-Take a bubble bath
-Watch a comedy show on DVD
-Blog/Journal about my feelings
-Play Bejeweled Blitz
-Play guitar or practice singing
-Cuddle with boy (Andee, mine is like your DH- he doesn't want to cuddle when I'm in a funk)
