They are opening membership a little bit more. More and more they add certain professions to the list. I work for lawyers and they added them a few years ago, which is why I have my membership. I never used it the first year and it expired but once the girls were born and I had a car, I now go about once a month. They sell our brand of baby formula cheaper than anyone else. It's only a slight discount but when you buy 10 tubs in one go, it makes a difference.

Jon isn't very impressed with the prices. He wanted them to be cheaper but he understands the nostalgia the place holds for me and just deals with it.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.

I recently let my Costco membership expire.  At first it was nice to see brands from the States.  I'm not sure if this will make sense, but in a way it made me miss Costco and Sams more as the UK Costco is close but not the same.
The only thing I really miss are the birthday cakes...but my butt is big enough as it is.   :P

I only weep b/c there is no Costco anywhere near me (as far as I know) in Norwich. If I had one of those and an Ikea then I'd be happy!

Then again, I'd probably need to have a car in order to get anything home from either store...so, on second thought... :)

They had the Ruffles at Lakeside the other day... It was a huge bag though, and I'm on a diet. Sad day!
Oh my gosh, I would LOVE some Ruffles. We shop at the Reading Costco once every month...maybe the Ruffles will make an appearance there soon. We love Costco, and I know the feeling of almost crying. We shopped at Costco here for the first time after we'd been in the UK for only a month, and we were having kind of a hard time adjusting. I freaked out at finding Orville Redenbacher popcorn.
Anywho, soda is so much cheaper there. We stock up on Coke Zero like no other. And dog food. My husband pushes around one of those giant pallet carts.
We just had a baby two months ago, and Costco was her first outing after leaving the hospital. How American of us. But I really wanted a slice of Costco pizza. :)

I work in IT for a bank and we regularly get them coming round to sign people up, I guess it's a corporate membership. Not joined as we can't buy loads of stuff in bulk as just nowhere to keep it. A friend is a member of MAkro (same sort of thing) and we use his membership if we are having a party

You can come down to Lakeside, about 40 mins from Norwich, and do a guest shop on my membership next time we restock peanut butter.

I just checked on google maps, it's EXACTLY 89.1 miles.  That's a tad bit more than my earlier guess, but for sure I hope it doesn't dampen your spirit.  We'll be doing a restocking on 3 Oct so you're welcome to hook up.

Regarding memberships....

We aren't really qualified to have one in the UK. But we got our membership when we were in the US, and we have just been able to renew it online. Our US membership card works every time at the Reading Costco we go to.

Maybe if anyone's going back for the holidays, just hit up an American Costco and get a membership so you can go once you're back.

We shop at Reading (because we live in Reading), and though the first time we went I went crazy (DH is British, and wasn't familiar w/ Costco, so the total can come as a shock with so little in your cart).

Now we mainly get peanut butter, Red vines, brownie mix and dried fruits on each trip as our 'staples' from Costco.

I found it interesting what others bought lots of (like Ruffles and Tostidos) and wondered if you and your spouse were both American, because my spouse doesn't get excited about American products, so we don't always buy them (it's too much for one person).

I've seen Hersheys stuff at Costco, but refuse to pay so much for Hersheys!  Though if they carried Reeses, I would buy a big box!

I'm West London based, I have a membership but no car, if anyone wants to trade with me, (i.e use my membership in turn for a lift) then I'd be up for that! :)
