Two days left.... starting to PANIC!
« on: September 06, 2010, 11:16:21 AM »
I seriously don't know how I'm going to get everything out of my house in the next two days!  I have a tenant moving in the day after I leave, and cleaners coming Tuesday morning, so I have one day to basically be at least 90% packed and finished... I'm really starting to have a melt down.  It's like things secretly were multiplying in drawers all throughout my house since I moved in, and as much as I pack there is still more stuff everywhere!

Sorry, just had to vent before either my head explodes or I have a heart attack!  :o

You'll be fine! It's the home stretch and I'm sure you'll power through it.  ;D

Make a list and work your way through.

You'll be fine. Just take it one step at a time. I've been in your shoes before (veerry recently, in fact) and things do have a way of working out. :) Good luck!

I don't have any words of wisdom, but loads of sympathy. I've had to do that, and I think it took years off my life. You can get through it though. Good luck!

Well... I'm off to a rocky start!  I missed my flight yesterday (but I got my dog on the plane).  So she is in the UK waiting for me, and I'm getting on a flight tonight, not going to Manchester, but London, so I have to book it in a car north to get to the kennel before 4pm.  I'm checking in in a couple hours and I'm petrified that one of my bags might be over 70 pounds.  I think this move has been the hardest thing I have ever done!!

Oh dear, how did you miss your flight?
Maybe take a train?
Virgin trains goes direct from Euston to Manchester, takes 2 hours. You will need to get from  your airport to Euston via tube.

This is good advice!  I hope she sees it, but she's probably en route already.  I would think a fast train to be a better alternative than driving hell-for-leather (on unfamiliar motorways) after an all night flight.

By now you're there, so I hope everything was smooth sailing the rest of the way! (throws lots of good luck at you)

Hi everyone!  Thank's for the well wishes!  I had to take a car instead of a train because the quarantine kennels are out in the middle of nowhere, and I needed a car the next few days anyway... not to mention the vast amount of luggage I had would have made train travel quite difficult.  My flight landed at 9:30 this morning, and I got to the kennel's right at 4pm (I'm posting in the pets thread about the kennel).

I was really tired driving by the end, but I made it to my hotel, and crashed from 6 until now.... now in the next few days I have to buy a car, bedding, house supplies, open a bank account, order internet, tv, etc, and move in to my apt on the night of the 13th.  Really relieved I am finally here!!

My thoughts. Do not jump into buying a car until you have been there for a week or so and had a look around. You undoubtedly need 'wheels' at the get go so see about renting a car for this period or if you can save money by doing so go the Ride Share route.

The best of British luck to you. ;)

It would be nice to have the luxury of waiting, but my dog is in quarantine 45 minutes from Leeds, and most of the cars I'm looking at are a bit out of leeds as well.  My apt is near the uni, but I still need a car for the other things, and renting adds up.  I've been stalking auto trader for weeks now though, so I think I have a pretty good idea...

Glad you made it,glad you drove ok,and your dog looks content now.  Though I can imagine she had quite a shock- flying-moving-all these strange people and faces-and not you around at all! She must have been over the moon to see you  :)
