Ha, anytime I feel homesick, I head right on over to Whole Foods, where I pretty much only hear the various american accents.

Hi everyone.
I have been here for about 5 weeks now and desperately need to meet some expats as I'm having the same challenges as others who have posted in the weeks after their move here.  I have just moved to South East London from New York City (30 year old designer who is desperately looking for a job also if anyone has connections).  Let me know if there are any events planned that I could crash.  I joined a "meet up" group but found that most of the people who attended the US Ex Pat group event,  were people who just "liked Americans"...so much that I got asked out on one occasion...if I were single, that would have been great but I'm just trying to find FRIENDS!!!!...normal friends...lol.

I went to school for Graphic Design and Advertising!! :) How do you go about getting into Accessories Designer?! That's amazing!! I would love to do clothing design as well...not that I can sew, but to design the clothes would be fun! I'm thinking about furthering my knowledge on Flash and Dream Weaver as that was my weak spot in College and maybe do Web Design. I can't make up my mind!  :-\\\\ There is to much I'm interested in and sadly never really started, so I don't have a lot of experience! I graduated in 05 and haven't had a job since in what I went to school for :( Partly because certain parts Ohio are horrible when it comes to jobs! And I was never really in a "big" city where Graphic Design was most likely in demand.

Oh was it MY meetup group?

I have to say running a meetup in London has been tricky, either private membership or screening everyone because I have found "non americans liking americans" trying to join. I feel cruel but know what you mean.. if it was my meetup I am sorry you had a poor time.

Hey everyone, in the same boat here.  I just moved to Essex (Via Texas/NYC/2 years travel) and would really like to meet up with my fellow Americans.  Send me a PM if you would like to meet up, or if enough people live close enough I would be happy to organize something for a group of us.

Hi Everyone! I just arrived in London a couple of days ago and so far so good! My boyfriend works full time though so besides sleeping and reading i'm not sure what I will be doing to fill my time! I can't work until August (right before I begin my masters program at King's College) so if anyone would like to meet up just let me know! It would be great to make some friends :)

Hey I wll be arriving next month, are there any London meet ups planned any time soon? My hubby will be working all day and I have the task to settle in the new country. I would love to meet new friends as the only person that I will know there is my better half.

I don't know if there are any meetups planned soon-I tried looking at meetup.com but I couldn't find any meetings during the day that looked interesting. I have just arrived and I would love to make new friends as well because I don't want to drive my boyfriend nuts! It's hard not having anyone else to talk to all day.

Awesome well lets keep in touch, what part of London are you staying at? If no one else is meeting up we can at least get together.  Having 1 friend is better than 0! Its always good to have girlfriends whom to count on. :)

I'm in Enfield-North East London, but travel around here isn't an issue thankfully! And yes I need girlfriends!! One thing I hadn't counted on when coming over here is that during the day all my friends are sleeping (LA is 8 hours time difference) so besides my boyfriend I have no one to speak to until about 4 in the afternoon! It does get a bit lonely but i'm still having a good time :) i've been reading a bunch! Haha

I'm coming the same week as you!  ;D

I too am looking to meet people and make friends in London. It takes a while to settle into a new city but it's nice to know I'm not alone. If anyone wants to meet up let me know.  :)
We met in Tokyo through friends when we both lived in Japan.

Last year we moved to Thailand, got our first apartment together, got jobs with the same employer (!), didn't end up killing each other, got married, and decided to move to the UK to settle down.

London, here we come!
