Fare Benchmark-US to UK
« on: September 21, 2010, 10:57:57 PM »
Today September 21

LAX to London $683. Out October 3 back October 24. Including taxes.

Anything better out there? Seems good to me. Most are in the $8xx range.

I've purchased various US-UK (and vice versa) flights recently and that looks pretty good.

I had a quick search just now on the sites I've been using and I don't see anything that comes close.

Yeah, looks good! I got Atl-Ldn for $875 for a week in Nov. Didn't see anything as good as $6xx! Go for it!

Wow...that's a great price.  I just booked our trip for Christmas for $716 each (one layover - Boston to London).

Looks really good. I'll be surprised if I get this next trip booked for less than $800. This is a very good idea for a thread!

Yeah, I've been looking at the Christmas flights (which I know you get screwed on anyway) and even flying out on Christmas Eve, or back on NYE is not exactly taking a ton off the top.

We found LGW-GSO (North Carolina) Nov 20 - Dec 2 for $711.  I had trouble finding anything under $800 for most of the dates we looked at.

I noticed this, too.  That's why I just said "forget it" and booked our flights for just before Christmas and leave a few days after New Year.  The airport fees/taxed we paid were nearly the base price of the tickets!

Oh well... ::)

It's crazy isn't it- My mother is looking for flights right now from San Fran to Manchester and it's over 900$... when I flew out here last year for a visit right around this time I only spent 500$ including taxes... I have a feeling this will only continue.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

I've been listening and watching the business news on the television and they say the airlines are making huge profits so far this year, I wonder why?

I got those airfares off the site a poster posted. It was called Student Fares or something and the poster said your not required to be a student any more to book. FYI.

You can look up the posts on here under "Student Universe" here is what I was trying to quote.---

I love this website!  You would think the prices are too good to be true but they're real, lol.
They have a new thing now where you no longer have to be a student.. as long as you are 25 or under.  Also, I have had to change flights as well as cancel flights and the fees were insanely cheap.

I just noticed it says under 25. I thought it was over 25. Wishful thinking on my part.

Wow that student universe seems a bit too good to be true as I found a flight (one way) for $475. Now I am waiting to find bad reviews.

Just to add my experience today:
Purchased Oct 5

One Way Charlotte to Gatwick $497 direct.

Boy am I glad I don't have to fool with connections. Unless the inevitable happens and I end up getting cancelled and shifted to an ATL flight or something. That's how my luck goes.

Just booked my Christmas flights..$803.  (or £510)  London (heathrow) - New York (JFK)

Not super pleased, as that was £100 more than what I paid last year, and that's with fiddling around with the dates.

But they are going up and up.  I lost out on some flights in the £450-475 range in the matter of hours.  And I'm too OCD to leave it too long because I just need to have these things settled early on.

Flying out about 10 days ago and coming back yesterday, I was able to fly UK>US for around £400, Heathrow to Kennedy.  I flew Virgin, but BA was around the same.  Christmas flights...well, I don't think we will be doing that at all.  I love my family, but travelling at that time of year is way too expensive.

Sort of off topic, but I wish that Virgin would take the controls to the entertainment system out of the armrest in Economy.  It's in the seat-back in Premium Economy, and that makes sense.  Not only is it uncomfortable to feel the controls there, every single one of the four flights I've taken with them in the past month have had dodgy controls because people are pressed against them when the control is stored away properly.  Seems like it's better business sense to me. It saves on wear and tear, plus there's a lot less wiring if it's right by the screen rather than wired under the floor.  Other than that, I love Virgin.

Agreed!  Also, I am always accidentally turning on/off my light or something like that.

My only beef with Virgin is the leg room, and I'm short!  I don't know how taller people manage.  My boyfriend is 6'7, and (if I've told this story before, apologies) the last time we flew Virgin, thankfully someone was able to switch with him because the leg room was ABSURD.    The emergency row seats were all taken prior to us getting there.

(But also, can I just say?  If you are above a certain height, I don't feel like you should have to pay extra for those seats.  It's not like he chose to be so tall!)
