I don't know about that. I think winning means less now than it did when these programmes first started. Now, if you finish strong you'll get a record deal and you'll be successful, regardless of whether you win or not. Look at JLS, for instance.

And on the flip side, look at the careers of the winners: only two have become successful (Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke) and the rest were slightly successful and then never really heard from again.

It's almost like, if you win, you'll end up having a hit single and then falling flat (unless you're Leona, of course), but if you come second, you're more likely to have more success (i.e. JLS, Rhydian, Olly Murs (recent No. 1 single)).

After tonight, I still love Mary, was really impressed by Aidan's performance, and loved TreyC's voice.  My least favourite was Katie, and I just don't get Wagner.

The judges seemed to like all of the acts! But I thought there were a few real clunkers. I'm not talking about Diva Fever and Wagner, both of whom are totally over the top and ridiculous (although I secretly find Wagner oddly entertaining).

My boy Aiden was the best, as far as I'm concerned. He's just brilliant.

And, as much as I hate to admit it, Cher was pretty damned good.

And Mary, of course. She rocks.

The ones I thought need a lot of work (to put it kindly) were all three of the groups, Rebecca, Paije, Storm, Nicolo and John (who?).

The middle of the pack in my opinion was Matt, Katie and Treyc .

My rant of the night: Why can't people's names be spelled properly?? What's wrong with Trac(e)y or Page??

They could always change their names to Storm or the like! Simon would love it.  ;)  :P

Loved: Aiden, Mary, and TreyC. Especially the first two. (And Chary has a crush!  [smiley=blush.gif] I love it!) Thought Diva Fever was fun to watch. Wasn't sure about the wardrobe and styling for those guys, though. Very cliché.  ::)

I also still love Rebecca's voice, but she was pretty dull to watch. I'm sure she will improve as the show goes on.

Hated: Katie and Nicolo. (Surprisingly, Storm didn't bother me that much compared to those two, but the styling was a bit stupid. I loved how Dermot called it Burglar Chic.  :P)

The groups sucked. I don't understand why Belle Amie and One Direction had some of the weakest singers taking the lead. In One Direction, Liam was fine, but you could barely hear that other kid! Belle Amie just sounded off and that song choice was...meh. I think any of the three other girls are better singers than the one they had heading things up last night. FYD bored me, but they were okay. I'm glad they brought back Diva Fever, as they were more entertaining than the other groups, at least.

I actually like John Adeleye. I think Louis picked a crap song that made the poor guy look and sound like an old man, when really I think he has quite a funky style. His performance was good, though, and he seems like a genuine person compared to some of the other contestants. I did like Matt to start with, but don't really like him as much now. I think DH has corrupted me. He thinks Matt is some kind of poser and hates the way he kind of puts down all painters and builders and blue collar jobs, he sounds very ungrateful when there are people who would really love to have a job doing those things right now, and then you saw his parents house on the show last night, and they looked well off and he lives with them, so it's not like he's this hardworking blue collar guy sleeping on a dirty mattress on the floor, or whatever he makes it out to be, if you know what I mean. DH finds him very insincere and I see his point now. Plus the hat annoys me. I love how John really loves his job at the nursing home and seems very genuine, really, so I hope he doesn't go this week.

To go: Nicolo, Katie, Wagner, or FYD.

Ah no, no, no. I think he's pretty but I'm not into pretty boys. I love him for his voice and his whole ... Aidenness! He's just great.

To go: Nicolo, Katie, Wagner, or FYD.

I still say John. But I wouldn't be disappointed or surprised if it were Nicolo, Wagner, Paije, Storm, Diva Fever, or any of the other groups.

Interesting theory about Matt. I'm not sure ... I half-like him. But I don't think he did that well last night. When he takes his voice up high (which he did a lot this week), it's like fingernails on a blackboard to me. Just because he can hit high notes doesn't mean they need to make him do it all the time!

Aiden and Mary are my top two - the only two that I was quiet for while they sang and turned the volume up.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Hey, Jewlz. What about adding a "Who do you think will win" poll to this thread?

I don't really care about Matt's blue collar pretentions  (which to be fair, aren't as bad as Katie's "oh, I'm just a receptionist at a hairdresser" Yah true... and your parents own a £1,000,000 farmhouse and you probably went to private school) ;D, he has amazing range, amazing. Possibly one of the best singers they've ever had on there and I thought he was brilliant last night and his falsetto doesn't sound forced at all...BUT the mix on the broadcast signal (maybe just on HD) was AWFUL, the backing track was WAY too loud and it wasn't balanced properly so you could hardly hear him, I also thought the song choice was bland as was his styling, Danni has no imagination whatsoever.

Nicolo I give props to, Just Dance is really difficult to sing and has weird timing because the couplet is on the downbeat, I thought he did really well to get though it, I'm just not a fan of him as a person.

Aiden was really  good, it was like looking into someone's mental breakdown live on stage though, I don't know if he'll be able to carry that through 12 live shows. I will say I thought he was all tone and no range, but he surprised me and did a really good job.

I am bored of 90s ballad singers so TreyC did nothing for me at all.

Katie made herself even more hateable in my eyes, I agree with everything that Louis said, desperate to be famous and reads all over her face, nothing original a pastiche of other acts, arrangement of song didn't suit the lyrics/sentiment of the song at all, totally drowned out by backing singers, had to rely on the backing singers to deliver the ramp from quiet->powerful in the song, no push or emotion, was sharp nearly all the way through.

Cher was pretty good, she seems one of the few that knows exactly what kind of artist they want to be, she's fixated on something which is current and marketable and wants to be that, I think that's pretty impressive and it's something that a lot of the acts like John Adeleye are missing, which is why he let Louis turn him into 90s man.

Hated Paije's performance, the styling and the arrangement, I basically blame Danni for all of that, she's useless as a mentor.

I still think Belle Amie have potential and would like to see them stay in for a while, it's so much harder when you're a group.

Storm was completely self indulgent, not relevant and just bleh inducing.

Definitely! I've never done that before, though... I'll give it a shot! Mary is my pick to win it this year. I think she will appeal to most everyone and has a very likable personality.

Did anyone see the spread in Heat Magazine on Katie last week? I read it in Asda, she is friends with the Geldof girls and has lots of history with Sony BMG. Saying that, I thought her performance was okay, better than expected, I love the sort of Pet Shop Boys thing they were doing and I loved her head piece. Her singing was just eh.

Stand outs for me were Mary & Cher!

Danni has no imagination whatsoever.

I thought she did a fab job with Aiden. I actually love Dannii. She's my favourite of the judges.

I am bored of 90s ballad singers so TreyC did nothing for me at all.

Yup. Another Leona Lewis in waiting, which is soooo not my cup of tea.

Storm was completely self indulgent, not relevant and just bleh inducing.

He was awful but, as much as I dislike him, I'm not sure the dreadfulness of last night was completely his fault. The styling, the whole performance of it, etc. were absolutely dire. And he doesn't have a great voice. But they keep trying to pigeon-hole him as the guy with the "rock voice," which he clearly isn't. He has, at best, a mediocre pop voice. And if he were given a decent pop song, he might sound passable. It would be miles better than last night's debacle, at any rate.

Yes, that's why I put in a who do you think WILL win poll. I realise it is two totally separate things!  ;) My opinion usually changes halfway through anyway, or at least, once the people I'm cheering for initially have been eliminated.  :P

FYD- fun stuff, this was the most I liked them so far.
Cute guy with hat (Matt?)- I thought he was brilliant, but omg what was he wearing!  Get rid of the hat too, he’s such a cutie.
John- Boring.
Rebecca- Wow, they certainly slicked he up!  She looks like a proper diva! There were some slight tuning issues in her song, but her personality will carry her thorugh.
Storm- God, could Louie have given him something more dated?
Belle Amie- Hot mess, imho.  You could tell they were beyond nervous.  I think they’ll get another chance, but they’re out soon if they can’t pull it together.  I agree with Cheryl that they just need time.
Cher- Ughhhh.  I thought she sounded like mediocre karaoke, although I liked the rap bit. But, she did do a decent job as far as stage presence etc.
Diva Fever- Cute and fun, but I don’t think they’ll make it to the final 6.
Page- Thought he did really well, boring song choice. I agree Dannii has no imagination.
Katie- Go home! Go home! Agree with Louie the song was too big for her and the costume was wretched.
Mary- You go girl!  Wow, wow, wow!!!
Nicolo- Meh, he was all right.
One Direction- I love them! I hate boy bands and I just think they’re so precious.
Wagner- No, no, no.  I think he’s first to go.
Aiden- FTW!  Loves him.  He was wonderful, and I agree with Simon that he was the best of the night.
TreyC- Totally agree about boring 90’s ballad crap.

In short, Wagner or Nicolo going home tonight.  My money’s on Wagner.
