I'm not much for cleaning, but I don't like dirty dishes left in the sink. If I'm going out in the evening and don't have time to do the washing up, I'll leave it for the next day, but in general, I think dirty dishes are gross and I clean them as soon as I can because I don't want to look at them.

I also don't have that many dishes. If I waited 24+ hours to wash dishes I wouldn't have any dishes to eat off.

I don't mind paper clutter and things like that, but dirty dishes are yucky.

We just let the cat lick them clean

Our dog does that. We don't even have to rinse before we put them in the dishwasher!  ;)

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my sarcastic comments, I just don't really see this as a big issue, I don't mind what people do, my MIL uses a washing up bowl, so whatever is clever. I think it's funny how defensive people get about it on both sides of the fence!  :D

I don't think very many people care what other people do in their own homes. The problem arises when you are in someone else's home and you are served food on dishes that you - whether rightly or wrongly - don't think are properly cleaned.

If you were in a restaurant and you thought that a dish or a piece of cutlery wasn't cleaned properly, or your food wasn't properly cooked, you would send the item back.

When you're a guest in someone's home and you are trying to have a good relationship with that person, it becomes a problem.  You have to choose between insulting  your host and enduring what you consider to be unhealthy, or just unpleasant, conditions. (And if the host is an in-law, it can bring up a whole bunch of other issues.)

Personally, I have eaten food that I was mildly allergic to in order to avoid upsetting my hosts.

I have always thought it was weird when I saw that people did not rinse their dishes here. I also think washing-up bowls are weird. I also think saying "I'm going to do the washing up," is weird. I'd always say, "I'm going to do the dishes."

I am very lucky because my fiance used to work at McDonalds when he was in uni, and their policy there is to rinse the dishes after washing them. So no problems there!

However, I don't rinse my dishes when I am around my housemates or my friends, as none of them do and they think I'm weird when I do it!

Overall, I don't think most people really care whether you rinse or not. I will always take pride in rinsing my dishes, though... ;]
