I find the people-who-don't-get-sick are generally the ones who worry least about things like this.  It's building up your immunities & tolerance to things that you keeps ya upright.  Just sayin'.   ;D

Completely agree!

I'd rather rinse but I've eaten off un-rinsed dishes lots of times with no bad side effects.  SalfordUSA made a good point about the logistical difficulties of trying to rinse without a double sink (something I always had back when I was learning to wash dishes as a kid in the US).  In answer to the question, we have a dishwasher here so it's only pans, knives, and the occasional thermos that get washed by hand.  I wash them, drain the water, and then rinse under a running tap.

That's what I do as well. Hubby doesn't mind how I wash them as long as he doesn't have to do it.

Ooh just had to chime in here.  I work in a primary school kitchen and although we rinse all the kids' plates, bowls, and silverware in a boiling vat of water, all the other dishes (like the pots and pans we cook and serve in, the utensils we use, etc) gets washed in a big sink of soapy water and then just stuck on the strainer to drain off.  At first I could fathom how a kitchen could not rinse.  Now I realize there is just no way to do it, no separate sink, and no time anyway.  So all those unsuspecting little kiddos are eating soap with all their dinners!
Just had to say hello to a fellow school kitchen worker,I worked in a primary school kitchen last year.  I worked in a servery (the food was taxied over from another school) so I had a small dishwasher.  However, the larger schools in the area have the sterilizer like you mentioned.  Since the tins wouldn't fit into the dishwasher, I washed by hand and didn't rinse.
I don't bother to rinse at home.

We use the dishwasher, which also rinses. Problem solved!  ;)

I scrub each dish with washing up  liquid and then I rinse it off. Easy.

I don't burn my hands because I wear gloves.

Sorry, nothing personal meant! But, what if this was in a restaurant? And the person before you had some kind of virus/infection and you caught it? People get E Coli from unwashed hands even in cooked food. (There was an incident a year or two ago where the guy making a birthday cake at a supermarket didn't wash his hands and everyone got sick from the cake at the party.) Do you rinse your hands when you wash them or just dry them with soap on? I can't understand why anyone would leave the soap in? What about clothes? Do you just put it in the soapy water and then hang them to dry? I'm pretty sure the answer is "no" to both of those (and the other examples I mentioned), so why would you do it with dishes? Just because you don't get ill from something doesn't mean it's healthy. And I'm not one of those omgineedhandsanitizer all the time people or germaphone. Just prefer not to eat soap and old food.

By the way, DH says if you agree with this argument, you should also never take a bath, as you would just be sitting in old, dirty, soapy water full of skin cells, dirt and other germs and then drying yourself off without rinsing off the soap and other particles.  ;)

I rarely take baths, and if I do, I shower afterwards for just that reason.

DH used to be married to a Japanese woman and lived in Japan, and he's told me that in Japan people always shower before getting into a bath. It's considered dirty to just step into a bathtub without washing your body first.

Lots of people will say that when you take a bath you are just sitting in your own dirt.

Plus, walking around all day with soap left on your body sounds itchy.

I agree with your husband.  I take baths from time to time, but I always follow up with a rinse from the shower.

Baths, unless taken in a river which is what I did as a kid at my grandparents' cabin, are sorta gross.

Actually, he doesn't shower before or after. He was just telling  me what the norm was in Japan.

I want to know how dirty people are who bathe and believe they are sitting in their own "filth".  I don't think I've ever gotten that dirty over the course of the day where while I'm taking a relaxing soak at night that I would think I am bathing in a cesspool.

I think the problem is if you've got a sink full of hot soapy water, how do you rinse under the tap without rinsing "into" your soapy water?  Or maybe you're washing the dishes under a running tap too?

I love baths!!  [smiley=smitten.gif]

I guess I'm a filth wallower. :P I don't generally shower before or after a bath, unless I need to wash my hair.  If I was really dirty or sweaty from working in the garden or running or something I would tend to take a shower rather than a bath.

In the metal sink, I wash the dishes in really hot water.. then stack them in that plastic washing bin on the counter. Once they are all washed, I rinse them under the running tap with hot water and stack them in the drainer to dry.

My hands are used to hot water and since I live in frigid Scotland, it helps warm me up. :P

Yes, I wash under a running tap.

There really aren't that many dishes. It doesn't take very long if you just take each item, scrub it with soap, rinse it off and then place it on the drying rack.

Then again, there are only two people in my home. Could be different with a large family.
