This is fun  ;D

DH loves his bath - heck we even have lush bath bombs for HIM (not me, I am allergic).

As for the shower head...I must be the only one that cleans it but I have slight OCD.  When I am spraying down the walls and tub, I also spray the shower head and let it all soak.
After reading that article though I wonder if we can get a metal shower head on the plastic doo hickey from the electric shower thingamabob.

We clean our shower head!  We have an electric shower and the water will actually get too hot if the shower head isn't regularly cleaned because the water won't have a clear path to spray out from.

I take far more showers than baths because they're quicker and more convenient, but I love baths, especially in big deep comfortable bathtubs.  I've never lived in a house with a spa tub and it's so unfair because my friends with giant bathrooms and spa tubs always say "oh we don't really like baths".  :\\\'( If only they could give their tub to me!  :D

My Dad (an American, a surgeon, and a fastidiously clean person) has taken a bath nearly every day of his life.  He doesn't like showers.  He also takes a nap almost every day.  When we were ill as children, his first "cure" recommendation was always to take a bath and and a nap.

Lots of British homes don't have showers, so I imagine that many Brits must never shower and just bathe to clean themselves

When I moved to the UK, DH's flat had no shower. DH showers at the gym and takes baths to relax at home so it wasn't a problem for  him.  However, when I moved in I had him install a shower attachment.

My MIL has a flat in London that we stay at sometimes. The tub also has no shower.

My husband ( Northern Irish ) and I actually had an argument about how to properly wash dishes! He fills up the sink with hot soapy water "cleans" the dishes and sticks it in the rack with no rinsing! SO gross! I will wash each dish with fresh water and rinse with fresh water....A lot of turning the tap on and off but at least I know my glass is clean! When we first started dating I thought I had an intestinal bug until I figured out I was drinking soap residue! Thank God we now have a dishwasher!

And I hate baths. I like to be in and out of a shower very quickly and a bath seems an awful waste of time!

Yes I rinse my dishes.

If my clothes go through a rinse cycle, and I don't put my clothes in my mouth, why wouldn't I give my dishes/silverware a rinse?

I agree with DH! Yuck. Baths are gross.

DH loves baths! I really don't understand how anyone could actually think a bath is gross at all, but to each their own!

I actually get sick far less often here than I did in the US, so maybe that's all down to not rinsing the dishes as often!  :P Actually, I'm a right wind-up... I do rinse the dishes when I do them ( ;)), but I don't think it's that big of a deal if someone else doesn't. My mother in law doesn't rinse her dishes, but I'm hardly going to refuse to drink out of her cups or eat off her plates without rinsing them first.  ::) It just wouldn't be worth offending her over.

I love reading this board - makes me pleased I'm married to DW!

Ha ha!  I know what you mean.  ;)  I was once in a longterm relationship with someone who was very OCD - it was exhausting.  And he was probably the physically unhealthiest person I have ever known - there we not only rinsed our dishes, but with boiling water too.  Anything else would 'make him sick' - but he was always sick anyway.  So glad I didn't marry him.

Some of the nastiest looking dishes I've ever seen have come out of dishwashers, with food crud still stuck on them, or horrible streaks, and they've been rinsed.  And I've seen hand rinsed dishes the same.  Also, I've been to the homes of people who rinse dishes, and witnessed their grotty kitchen tables and counters in need of a good clean/wipe - and I mean left like that, not just after a meal or something.  The horror!  The horror!  :P

When we're washing our dishes, if we see something isn't clean, we just wash it again.  They aren't coated with washing up liquid or anything.  Dry everything with a clean tea towel & they actually get a bit polished up that way.  My glassware is sparkling and my cutlery shines - if it was really coated in soap, it wouldn't.  Simple as.

If I'm going to leave the dishes to drip-dry in the drainer, I'll give them a rinse.  But that's infrequent because mostly, we just wipe them straightaway & put them away directly.

...but I don't think it's that big of a deal if someone else doesn't. My mother in law doesn't rinse her dishes, but I'm hardly going to refuse to drink out of her cups or eat off her plates without rinsing them first.  ::) It just wouldn't be worth offending her over.

Exactly!  Lol!  But it's a good thing knowing who feels so extremely passionately about the washing up - maybe it'll help to keep numbers down in the future.  ;) :P

Hehehe, anyone is welcome to come to my house and wash my dishes and even rinse them afterwards. I wouldn't complain in the slightest.   ;)

Apparently, MiL is a fastidious rinser-but, FiL isn't. But, since MiL had some health troubles, she only dries the dishes, and FiL doesn't say that he hadn't rinsed. hehehehehhehe [smiley=laugh4.gif]Oh well, we haven't had any soap in our crockery yet, so, it must all be OK.  [smiley=mellow.gif] Once we're in our own place, we will both rinse! :)

Although I don't understand the issue with non-mixer taps.

I only use hot water when I wash dishes. I don't need a mixer tap for washing dishes.

So, is the main argument against rinsing that it takes too long?  Really?  ???

I don't think there was ever an argument to get people to stop rinsing?  I think the deal is that British people (in general and with exceptions) have tended not to rinse their dishes probably because it's what they've always done, and some Americans (and some Brits) are more bothered by that fact than others.

Yes I rinse my dishes.

If my clothes go through a rinse cycle, and I don't put my clothes in my mouth, why wouldn't I give my dishes/silverware a rinse?

Thought about this....I'm guessing the difference is that clothes are porous, they are going to absorb the soap, whereas dishes aren't porous so it runs off.
