Craft Stores?
« on: October 06, 2010, 12:35:13 PM »
Forgive me if this is a repeat topic, but I cross stitch and do other embroidery, and just wanted to know what craft stores are available around London.  And are they comparable to Michael's or Hobby Lobby (the two stores in the states I am familiar with)?  I have a sinking feeling I should have brought all my supplies over with me, but I was limited on what I could bring this trip, and felt warm clothes were more important.

Any help/advice would be great! Thanks in advance :)

Hobby Craft is one of the larger ones I have seen.

Check out the John Lewis store in Kingston...next to the Bentall Centre.  They have a section for embroidery, cross-stitch, knitting and sewing.  It is not nearly as diverse as a Michael's, but it will be easy for you to get to right now!

I've found local independent craft shops to be much more interesting than the US megastores! Have a look in your Yellow Pages and see what you find. :)

I think it depends on the types of crafts you want to do.  Most of the quilting stuff I have seen has been very expensive and few and far between.

I've never been, but according to my sister, NOTHING in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD compares to Hobby Lobby!

My sister sells Quilting Fabrics and travels around the heartland selling to the big stores, she is in Nebraska today! How exciting! She sent me this photo...

Lol! Sorry to go off topic!

Lol! Sorry to go off topic!

Lol!  Yeah, there's one of those in Kansas near the Wichita airport - always used to fuel up my rental car there before returning it on my way out of town.  :D

Surely there must be some nice markets & shops etc for crafty stuff in London, of all places!  Here in Leeds, the place to go is the city market.  :)

I would think London would have tons of lovely little craft shops! Hell, we have three in Penzance alone!

LOL @ the picture. I used to live in Iowa, and we had those all over the place. Of course, we had very immature synonyms for the place that also rhymed, but they are way too offensive to post.

And Hobby Lobby is AMAZING.  I don't think anything can compare.

I do mostly crossstitching and other embroidery.  For example, I made stockings for 3 members of my family, and I would like to make one for my fiance too!  I'm still trying to figure out where stuff is, just need to know how to direct my googling to find things :)
