UKY Camera Club
« on: October 13, 2010, 08:03:44 PM »
OK, so Cheesebiscuit has essentially masterminded an ingenious idea for those of us who like taking photographs as a hobby. Basically, we would like to get a club going to take pics for a weekly photo assignment on a particular theme. We were thinking of just going along with the BBC on this one, by following this link to get the word or theme of the week:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-10768282

Hopefully this will get all of us who like to take photos motivated to go out and take some photos! What do you think? We could just post our photos up by the deadline listed there on the BBC. We are, of course, open to suggestions for other methods of getting our bums off the settee and out with our cameras.  ;) The beauty of the BBC thing is, if you get a photo you really love, you can always submit it to them, which is an extra incentive. Otherwise, we can all just comment or vote on each others images, or put up a secret poll to see who thinks which photo is best (which would also be good for those who don't want to take pics, but like to look at them.)

What do you think?

ahhhh, J has taken a half formed idea I had and has turned it into something awesome!

Thanks lovely  :)

I'm really up for it, and what I was thinking is that all types of photographers should be included, I've seen some awesome photos taken on phone and iphones.

I took these about 4 years ago on my Sony Ericsson W800i for instance.

I've also been having some fun with the Hipstamatic ap on iphone.

So yeah, hopefully will be a bit of fun and will encourage all the photographers among us to get out there and take photies and if you're not a photographer already, then you should join in anyway! No need for expensive equipment :)

Totally agree with that CB. I love Hipstamatic photos and since I don't have an iPhone or decent camera phone, I love seeing other people's images. Of course, you could also do Polariod or other film and just scan it in if you have a scanner.

Any photography is good photography and everyone is welcome to participate!  ;D

Those of you who were doing 365 blogs might find this easier, as you only have to submit the one pic for the week rather than a new pic each day!  :o I'm thinking the poll idea is pretty good, we could take it down each week and put up a new one, so those who would just like to silently judge us can feel free to do so.  ;)

I'm game!!
J is really into photography so we're constantly out and about every weekend finding things to take pictures of - and as a consequence I am constantly snapping myself- my 5 year old 5.1 megapixel, non SLR or anything, kodak actually takes fantastic pictures
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

Sweet! I'm thinking we could start this up for next week's assignment, just to give everyone a few days to check in if they want to participate. Next week, the BBC theme is fish.  :) Shall we post entries by the Friday or following Monday?

Sounds like a cool idea.  I already do something similar on my blog with You Capture and I struggle enough to get one good pic for that, so cant do both, but am looking forward to seeing other people's photos!

I might join in. I'm notoriously bad at dropping the ball on these kinds of things, but I keep trying!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Sushi definitely counts! I think the more tenuous the connection, the better!

I'm only just seeing this thread now so have rummaged around the house and found something to take a photo of. Were they supposed to be posted yesterday?

The only question I have is forum-related. I'm not that tech-savvy, but will uploading photos here do something bad to the UKY bandwidth or something like that? If so, should they be hosted somewhere else perhaps?

You can start a free Flickr account or use http://imageshack.us/ to upload your photos.

I think that next Monday can be the cut off, as it took a while to get going.

No, I have somewhere to do that. That's not what I meant. I thought the plan was to post them here on this thread as well (maybe I was wrong?) ... and that's what I wondered about. Would having so many images here on UKY be a problem for the forum?

No, that's what I'm saying.

You host them somewhere else and then post the link here using the [ img ] tags. Then the bandwidth is coming from the hosting site (i.e flickr or Imageshack) not the forum.

 :)

Ah, thanks! That's the part I didn't get. I thought that putting pics up here (regardless of where they're hosted) affected the UKY bandwidth. I'm cyberdumb.
