Part Ownership
« on: October 18, 2010, 11:27:20 AM »
Hello!
I'm currently on a spousal visa - have about 1 year left. My husband and I were looking into buying a flat in London through the part ownership scheme, with some help from his dad. But does this in any way fall under the 'recourse to public funds' scenario? I've had a look around this site and the internet in general and can't seem to find a definite answer. We're pretty excited about the idea - my sister-in-law did it a few years ago and it worked out really well for her. Want to start figuring it out ASAP.

Thanks!
Danielle

Even if it was public funds (which I am not sure of) your husband (as a British Citizen) would be able to avail himself to any that he was eligible for, he just could not receive MORE to support you.

You can find more information on public funds here: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/while-in-uk/rightsandresponsibilities/publicfunds/

Thanks WebyJ, that link is really helpful. I'm leaning towards thinking that this would NOT be considered public funds. Does anyone have any experience with part ownership?

from what I understand about part ownership, is you buy half of it,then the other half you pay rent on.
So theres no benefits or public funds involved in this. Its just something to help first time home buyers
