Post-Marriage Stuffs

I'm trying to double check myself about stuff I need to do after getting married.  I'm on for this Saturday--wow!  When we gave notice at the registry office, the lady asked me if there was anything I needed to do as far as the US was concerned about my getting married.  The only thing I can find online is taking my passport and marriage certificate into the embassy in London to let them know what I've been up to.  Is that right?  There's nothing else they want me to do?

You dont have to take anything to the Embassy. Really the only thing you need to do is get your name changed if that is what you are doing.

Ok, well, I guess that's why nothing has come up.  I'm not changing my name right now, so I'll just postpone my visit to the embassy.  Thank you!

I had one other question if you don't mind, JennM.  I'm scheduled to go into the Cardiff BA office for my FLR, but I'm the only one listed on the appointment booking.  They said something about only the person listed being allowed to come to the appointment.  I was just wondering if this means the sponsor has be listed too in order to come along for the FLR?

The only reasons you will ever have to go to the Embassy is if you have a child or your partner needs a US visa. Everything else can be done by post.

And yes, your sponsor can go with you but doesnt have to be listed. My husband was not on the appointment and he was able to go in with no questions.

Oh that's even better!  My passport doesn't expire for 5 more years and I thought I'd have to go in for that. 

Thank you for all of your help!  The Cardiff office goes on about how small their office is and to not bring luggage or anything extra, so I wasn't sure how strict they were with the people-not-listed part of the rules.

Your partner is actually required to go to the appointment or write a letter of support for your application. Other people listed on the appointment would be other visa applicants, such as dependants.

I did know that they preferred the sponsor to be there, I just feel like this is a little bit Soup Nazi, where if you don't do everything exactly right, sit in all the right places, shuffle sideways just so, then it's no visa-soup for you!  I just wanted to check that even though they wanted him there, his not being on the list wouldn't get him thrown out.  Thanks!
