Just glomming on here, because I'll be in a similar boat shortly.  We're here on T2-ICT, and will be having a baby in April.  Can we do an in-person priority appointment in Croydon for the baby's visa when the time comes (once we've got a birth cert., registered the birth at the embassy and gotten a passport)?

You should be able to, just make sure that you're scheduling your appointment at least 6ish weeks in advance to get the date you want. The current fee for a postal application is £475 and the PEO service is £750. You can find the form that you'll have to use here and the guidance for the form here.

Ah..no wonder it's confusing!

So if you wanted to make the application while you're in the US then you would go to the Online Application System where the PURPOSE OF APPLICATION is 'Employment (non Points Based System) and the TYPE OF APPLICATION is 'Work Permit Dependent More than 6 months'.

Just one thing I am not clear on, is where I get this online application from when I am in the US. For instance, the link on WorldBridge takes me here:

http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ApplyNow.aspx

Is that where I would do it from? Or is that the in country one.

Cheers!

That's the one. But you won't be able to submit it until you're in the US and you need to use the address in the US where you'll be when you're there, but you can do a dry run of it now just don't submit it once you get to the end.

Genius! Thank you.

One last question...regarding the documents I will need. The work permit is in my husband's name, and my passport sticker thing says "Work permit dependent." I am assuming I will then need my husband's passport to send in, as our daughter will be tied to that? And then we've got her passport, birth cert, picture, etc.

See that's where I'm not sure what you'll need because the guidance just doesn't exist anylonger. At a minimum you'll need what you listed, but there might be more I just don't know...work permits aren't being issued anylonger (since 27 Nov 2008) and are before my time (immigration knowledge wise anyway). Which is why you may want to consult a professional to make sure that you have everything that you need. Hopefully your husbands employer has an adivser or Solicitor that they use that can help you.

Sorry I just don't know the answer to that question and cannot locate any further information either.

No worries,  you've been more than helpful. Kind of annoying that they gave us work permits, as we got them in October 2008. You think they'd have known they were going to the wayside and gotten us whatever was coming in.

I called the number on this page listed under the Work permits before 2008 section:
http://ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/contact/contactspage/contactcentres/

The guy wasn't very helpful. He said, "there will be guidance on the form about what documents you need." Uh huh...

Still waiting to hear back from mine and my husband's employer about what they can do/if they're going to help us...

Did he happen to say which form? Because it would be easy to find out from that.

He mentioned the FLR(O). But that is only in country, correct?

He said to just follow the steps on the online link, if I do it from America...in which case he didn't really know much about what documents I'd need.

Our employer does have a team of immigration specialists and solicitors. They just are not returning our calls/emails very quickly. I'm losing my mind!

FLR(O) is the in country application.

For the online US one you could go through the application just don't submit it & don't pay for it and you might be able to get far enough for it to list what you need. It's a long shot but it might work, no guarantees though.

Thanks, Weby.  ;D And thanks Katylux for letting me glom onto your thread.  (we came over at the same time as you and started out with work permits, but it was only a 2 year, so we had to switch into Tier 2 in the spring)

No problem. Very smart of you to think of this in advance, unlike ourselves. *bangs head into wall*

Our work permits expire in October 2011. So we'll be dealing with a change-over soon, too.

Tried doing it, but could only get a few pages in. It says it will email you the required paperwork after you submit. So bummer. Our immigration solicitor just emailed us back, so hopefully they can answer. Will update if I find out!

Thanks so much for your help!

Just to update--luckily we heard from our company's immigration team today. They are paying for everything and helping us out. They got an appointment for next Thursday, and the solicitor is taking care of everything. We just have to get all of her paperwork together.

I feel super relieved. We should have this visa by next Friday if all goes well!

Very cool. I knew that a good solicitor would be able to get it done I'm just very happy for you that you're not having to pay for it!
